Pedal interfering with panel
A little worried about this. The UCP pedal is making contact with the bottom dash panel. If I pull the clutch pedal forward by hand I can see the panel wants to move forward as well. The concern is if the panel is preventing full extension of pedal and if this will cause excessive clutch wear. The car drives fine. Can anyone else with the UCP or OEM verify how much of a gap there should be.

I rechecked the pedal with and without the panel using a straight edge. Without the panel it was perfectly level with the brake. With the panel on it was ~ the thickness of the brake pedal with the rubber pad from being flush with the brake (at least 5mm) so I cut the panel opening ~1/2". Now it's fine but it needed every bit of the cutout. Still highly recommended upgrade.

Just to bump this thread since it was a good read for those interested in this mod, a few have complained of the different feel with the over center spring on the middle setting. I ended up taking off the bigger outer spring and it’s just right now, not overly springy to where starting the car is touchy, but not too sloppy like the first setting.

My question would be, is the cutting of the lower panel in the install directions or is it a mess up on the install or is it bad manufacturing on the UCP? I would think that having to cut the lower panel to get the pedal to move freely and full motion would be something that others have run into over the years this product has been out, no?

I mostly start in 2nd gear from a stop. That solves that problem.

I definitely needed that extra cutout and I wouldn’t have noticed if I didn’t check. I’m not the only one that noticed this interference with the floor panel. Otherwise it’s been working perfectly try fine. I installed it on the softest setting (attachment point furthest from pedal) but I don’t think this would impact the pedal extension. I wonder if inadvertent twisting of the connecting knuckle on the master cylinder could change the length.
Re: the overcenter spring I installed this in the softest setting. This spring actually has 2 kinematic phases. Initially it adds resistance to the pedal. After pushing the pedal partly in it then does the opposite and assists in pushing the pedal down. Just looking at it from the side, I’m guessing the softest setting might be more firm for the beginning of travel but then assist more with the rest of travel. You can feel this transition by pushing the clutch in slowly. The reverse will happen when letting clutch up which means it should come up slower on the softest setting. However, it hasn’t been an issue for me. |

Another reason why BMW probably used 2 springs for the overcenter spring was to utilize the spring properties of both to help smoothe the transition. Although it’s additive they’re in different degrees of compression thru-out the travel. The UCP and the setting you use will have a different transition point then stock.

I just finished installing the UCP and noticed this as well. I cant imagine that the clutch wouldn't be fully engaged because of that obstruction... only reason I think that is because there's still a little slop/play in the pedal beforehand.
I may also cut out some clearance as well, but this is the first I've heard of this... and I would guess (like someone else said) that this issue would have been well known since we'd be hearing about a lot of early clutch wearing issues. Good find/notice though! |

joshua1745 thanks for the pics and the description, I had the exact same situation you had, and it makes install more of a b*tch for sure. I loved when the next step was "push in something from the left" and there's a module sitting less than a half inch from the left of the clutch. Luckily I searched the forum and found your post so I knew I wasn't crazy. Whoever designed that plastic holster was like "F- it, no one's going to see this thing anyway, I'm just going to make it whatever messed-up shape it needs to be to fit in this space." Little did they know...
Scraped up my left arm pretty good in the course of the install. I also didn't love being cheek to cheek with something labeled "airbag." All that said, so glad I did this install! The results are significant and the benefits are immediate. I was having some hip flexor pain prior to this, and was constantly playing with my seat position trying to get things feeling natural. I also had some rougher shifts when the rev-matching was off. All that is gone now, and the car feels much more natural to drive. Recommended. |

Hi all
I've seen everywhere online and had feedback from suppliers that this part is categorically for LHD cars only. However it states it replaces the stock BMW clutch pedal and the part number for the stock pedal is the same in both LHD and RHD cars. Can anybody give me a definitive answer as to why exactly it won't fit a RHD car when it's replacing an identical part? Have any RHD owners tried this install? Thanks! |

So, is it conclusive that we have to trim the piece of the lower dash cover for this to fully engage the clutch? Was planning on picking this up until I saw that there's an issue with that..
