The car:
-2018 F80 M3 -6MT -Yas Marina Blue, black leather -Executive Package, Driver's Assistance Package, CF roof, Apple CarPlay, 513M wheels -One owner, clean CarFax, 34k miles, all maintenance up-to-date, damn near immaculate inside and out, and it even has some lingering new car smell! The timeline: 8/26: Found the car online at a dealer in Houston 8/27: Some back and forth phone calls and videos with the dealer 8/28: Finalized the deal and wired the money 8/29: Left the dealer's lot on a covered trailer 8/30: Arrived to my house in Indianapolis The lighting sucks b/c it was at like 9:30pm when he arrived, but check this out! There is nothing, NOTHING more exciting than getting a super dope new car delivered to your doorstep...and it's even sweeter when the car arrives in even better condition than you expected! I've got some mods coming soon, and I'll be sure to update this thread as they happen so stay tuned!

And yes, it certainly is. My last 10 cars (5 of which were Bimmers and two of those were M cars...along with a black 996 turbo and a black 997.1S) have all been black, but I stepped outside of my comfort zone with this one, and I couldn't be happier. YMB is interesting enough to stand out more than your typical black or gray Bimmer while not being too crazy like yellow or red (not that there's anything wrong with those colors, but they're just not my vibe). Anyway, it's freaking gorgeous, and I'm so glad I got it rather than an 11th black car.

8/31/20, Day 1:
BimmerCode: I spent a couple of hours tweaking all the settings to my liking. First step was coding out the Active Sound. God, that is freaking awful so I was happy to get rid of it. I also turned the off all the stupid warnings, cranked up the halos to 100%, etc. This really made the car feel like it was my own. Manually unplugging the exhaust flap: I'd done this on my E90 and my F30 b/c the exhausts were so quiet from the factory in those cars, but this was WAY too much on the F80. My [old lady] neighbor two doors down made a passive aggressive comment to my wife like "wow, I can really hear your husband leaving for work in the morning in his new car" so I plugged it back in after a couple of days. It's nice to pull out of the garage in Efficient and then pop it into Sport when I get on the street. I still have cold start enabled, but that's reasonable as long as the flaps are closed. But, boy, when the flaps are open AND that cold start fires up, it's excessive to say the least.

9/3/20, iND painted reflectors: b/c no self-respecting F80 owner, or any Bimmer owner for that matter, would drive around with the hideous orange things that come from the factory. They're relatively inexpensive, the install is super easy, and the difference they make is simply stunning.

I also had a 997.1S with the X51 Power Kit, PCCBs, Bilstein Damptronics, custom tune, Fabspeed exhaust, etc which was a bit more impressive than the white one and an absolute BLAST on the track. But I sold it last year so this F80 is essentially replacing the 997.1S X51. I'm not sure it's possible to thread-jack my own post, but since you brought up Rennlist, here's the "unboxing" thread for that car. In the driveway of our white house in the background, you can see my CBM E46 M3! https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...and-video.html

9/7/20, Bootmod3 Stage 1: Since I built my F30 N55 to be FBO/Stage 2, I'm very familiar with the Bootmod3 platform so the likelihood of me not flashing this car was effectively 0%. So I flashed it. And HO-LEE-CRAP this thing is an ANIMAL
First and second are basically non-existent; they're just transient periods of spinning tires until you shift into third and [hopefully] hook up. But even sometimes in third I was still breaking them loose. I read on another post that a tuned S55 quickly becomes "traction-limited", and that is the perfect term for this situation. This car has such an insane amount of torque that MPSS in OEM 275s aren't nearly enough. Clearly I need more meat in the rear, probably 295 or even 305 in MP4S. Until I get to that point, although it's fun, it's basically unusable on the street, I'm afraid it'd be borderline hazardous on the track, and it would probably wreak major havoc on the charge pipes. 9/12/20, Bootmod3 GTS: Now THIS is a much more reasonable tune. It's far more powerful than stock, but it's also very smooth, very drivable, very OEM-like, doesn't have a huge rush of gut-wrenching torque at 3k, and while you can break them loose in second, it doesn't happen at every stoplight. I absolutely love it. My other thought behind "downgrading" to GTS (and I use that term loosely b/c to what kind of maniac is 493hp a downgrade??) is that I still have over a year of warranty left, and aftermarket charge pipes would no-doubt throw a red flag at a dealer. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but assuming that the F80 GTS has the same CPs as the base F80, the CPs on the base F80 can therefore handle a GTS tune. So my plan is to run the GTS tune until the warranty expires. And the very next day I'll get aftermarket CPs and also flash back to Stage 1. Until then, *only* 493hp will have to suffice *Note: I don't remember what the Sport Displays read with the base OEM map, but I did notice they went down when I flashed from Stage 1 to GTS. Oh well...*

Congrats! I just bought mine in June and it makes me grin every time I drive it. YMB is beautiful. I need to get those color-matched reflectors ASAP

Congratulations! Looking forward to following this thread to see how it progresses.
I know the "unboxing" feeling as I purchased mine the same way a few months ago. |

Congratulations! Car looks great and I did a pretty similar list of mods, minus the BM3; I'll wait until after my warranty expires for that. I too get the looks when I start the car cold in the morning. I quickly learned to not go anywhere near Sport or Sport+ until I was out of the neighborhood.

Looks great! Two months ago my Yas F80 was delivered in a similar fashion, minus the cringe cold engine rev. If I were you, I'd be ripsh*t and request a partial refund from the transportation company, if it's worth the hassle, since you have video evidence. I understand the car has 34k miles, but after a long journey no professional shipper should ever purposely rev a cold engine.

Btw, is your car a ZCP? Based on the black badge and black tips, I'm guessing it is. I've been debating between those and CF tips. I'm already planning to black-out all the chrome (front kidneys, side gills, and rear ///M badge) like the ZCP comes from the factory so the tips are the last part of that equation. I've got eBay CF tips on my F30 and they look awesome, but part of me likes the more subtle gloss black ZCP style esp since I don't have a diffuser or other CF accents on this car.

Yeah it's the ZCP package, should be easy to emulate the looks by blacking out the chrome exterior bits. I think the straight-cut CF Tips look so much better on this car than the slanted OEM tips. I left the exterior stock for a few weeks, then added a replica OEM-style diffuser and spoiler without breaking the bank. The contrast between YMB and black CF parts was too beautiful to pass on, I'd highly recommend it. |

9/18/2020, touch-up, PPF and tint:
-Stage 2 paint correction done to entire car and touch-up applied to entire car as needed -Xpel Ultimate Plus PPF on front bumper, headlights, hood, front fenders, rockers, rear fenders, and rear bumper (plus some little stuff like the A pillars, mirrors, door cups, etc)...basically the entire car except the roof, doors, and deck lid -20% Xpel Prime XR ceramic tint -Satin black vinyl over rear reflectors -Chrome deck lid M badge replaced with OEM black M badge -They forgot to install the OEM black front and side grilles so they'll do that when I go back for the two week follow-up appointment. Overall it looks awesome. The tint is the perfect level of darkness, and I'm very happy with the quality of the PPF work, but the biggest thing is that I feel like I can finally drive the car with a clear conscience. Until now, I've been somewhat nervous behind trucks in traffic, hesitant to spin the tires (and risk kicking rocks up onto fenders), etc. Now that the film is applied, it's GAME ON
