Talking Road rage or appreciation towards the M3/M4?

King of a wierd title but don't know how else to put it. I've noticed in Nj at least that people with "nicer" cars tend to be subjected to others road rage more frequently than say, a guy in a 1990 accord.

The M4 blends in quite a bit (less the carbon roof) but do you guys find people give thumbs up?, nod in appreciation, or cut you off and and try to race you etc.......

Or do people not even notice or care 99.9% of the time(I'm kind of expecting this considering my car will be Alpine white)

Just curious with everyone's experience

Road rage or appreciation towards the M3/M4?

I believe that if you're minding your own business, not weaving in between traffic volume or you trying to get attention - the majority of drivers are just trying to get from point A to B - talking on phones, texting, and basically clueless as to what vehicle models are near them. There maybe the occasional driver that wants you to move a bit quicker because you're in the 'Ultimate Driving Machine' but I assume they have some maturity issues - let em go. I've got an AY/F82 - there's a lot of traffic in my area - everyone is trying to get around the Prius stuck in the left lane.

My M4 is Austin Yellow so it doesn't exactly blend in. I get a lot of thumbs up and appreciation, especially from pedestrians. I also get a lot more rage, compared to when I was driving a silver 335i. People get edgy being stuck in London (UK) traffic, but now they honk at me for no good reason, only because my car is better than theirs.

This may be odd, but I don't get any reactions from my daily commute (AY here) and I like it that way.

Mine is orange with an MPE so it actually attracts a good amount of attention.

I've had a family of Chinese tourists park their minivan to hop out and crowd around my car once.

I've had two guys with massive Nikon camera crouch down and take different angles while my girlfriend was in the car.

I've had a Huracan owner track me down just to talk cars.

I've had drunk people "woot" me on the street after hearing the exhaust.

I've been pulled over by a squad car just to ask exactly what it was.

I've gotten a lot of people to take a second look, mostly I think they are just trying to figure out exactly what it is. The color, noise, and headlights (LEDs) are probably what most people notice it.

Not much negative attention though. I think, for the most part, people either don't know/care what it is or if they do know what it is, they enjoy seeing something different.

I also haven't had many people edge me to race or anything, I wouldn't race anyways though. I had an old guy in a stingray rev his engine before turning once but that stuff doesn't phase me or anything. Generally, if someone in another 'performance' car sees me, they try to speed up to me just to get a closer look and then give me a thumbs up.

In conclusion, I only take my car out once or twice a week since I travel during the week and it's snowy here, so it has been a pretty good showing thus far.

I get thumbs ups and pictures taken almost every day. Here in central jersey I don't see a lot of M4s (I've seen maybe three since last summer). The only guys that rev and burn rubber off the line when they see me are E92 M3s. I've driven next to p-cars, f-cars, GTRs, etc... but so far only the e92 M3 drivers seem like they need to floor it when they see me. I wonder why. lol...

I have yet to know, but I hope to only get positive reactions here and there versus people trying to race (and attracting too much attention in general). I have yet to see anything of the sort with my 335i, but that's a much more common/plain car in comparison.

Precisely the same reason they come to the F8X section to discuss how superior their motor is.

E9x are great, 335's scary. In the east side of this country people felt free to come and tell me at gas stations women should not drive these and that it's an ugly fucker, but in the west no one cares.

Sadly, if the roads are clear I do race the E9x's. They are so damn beautiful.

I get treated with total indifference. Just another black BMW in a sea of black BMWs.

Mine's Alpine with carbon -- it doesn't get nearly the attention that my former Masterati got -- except for the people in the know. Maybe a little adolescent for a 50 year old guy, but there are several Mustang drivers and Japanese brand would be race car drivers who are now "in the know"!

The funniest thing is the other BMW drivers who don't know.......

Yeah, yesterday I had a rager (BMW won btw )

Today, I had a guy pull up and compliment the car and ask a zillion questions...

So it balanced out this weekend I guess ...

It seems that everywhere I go, people love the color of my SO M4. Whether it be a drive-through, in a parking lot, or just about any where else, people are telling me how they love the color of my car, and ask what the color is called. I explain to them that is is "Sakhir Orange" and that is only available on BMW M cars, although there is a Camaro down the street from me that is very close in color, maybe a little more reddish. Chevy probably calls it a red. As far as I know, my M4 it is still the only SO car in the Sacramento area.

Funny you should say this, just today some Mercedes kompressor got all in my business because I passed it on a ramp.

San Antonio is already chuck full of terrible drivers and road rage but the hate is strong while in my car.

Worst was an Altima or maxima driving erratically so I wanted to get out of there so I past him going about 80 while he was doing about 75 next thing I know he is pulling right next to me obviously waiting to block me in so let's just say I put the turbos to use and completely leave him behind while he was flooring it.

As I get in the exit lane because I didn't want to be another victim of a highway shooting or a pit maneuver, both of which happens here dude flies past me 100mph+ then cuts me off but couldn't slow down in time with a car in front of him so he swerves back onto the freeway and cuts off two cars. All for what?

On the contrary rural roads and small towns is definitely more of this car's scene.

I get both...

Lots of thumbs up, and I see people taking photos of the car constantly. Love it when I come back to the car and people are taking photos of it, and I stand there waiting for them to finish, and they always want a chat, but it kinda irks me when people race through traffic, weaving in and out to get behind me and then I can see them taking photos in my rear view mirror. A photo isn't work driving like a dick.

I also get a some aggression, usually from people driving nice cars, but not as nice as an M4. People who drive cheaper cars always gives thumbs up and stare, but people who drive nicer cars always show aggression and jealousy. Weird phenomenon.

The most annoying thing however, is how every single GTi/R32/WRX/S3/S4 owner seems intent on flooring it around me to show off how fast their cars are. I would feel really bad if they caused an accident while trying to show off
