M Performance Alcantara Key Fob Cover Issue

Hey guys, just a heads up if you were considering ordering one of the carbon/alcantara key covers. The screw head on mine snapped off after only two weeks of use. And no, it wasn't torqued down like crazy. Not really a huge deal but money wasted is money wasted.

No offense to you, but I think it's money wasted by regardless. BMW should have given M owners one of they FOB protectors at time of purchase.

Luckily I got a pretty good deal on it through work, I'm not sure I could get myself to pay the $50 or whatever they retail at. But I do agree. What really doesn't make a lot of sense to me is why they supply M3/4's with the most basic key available, when many of the lower end vehicles ship with "better" keys.

Maybe they decided that 425 horses and 400 torques were enough.

Happened to me also. Just replaced it with a shiny steel one. Looks better IMO.

I got the leather one but these are freaking huge/thick if you put your car keys in your rear pocket. Makes you look slanted while seated, and get weird looks.

Ok, I get replacing your first one after it breaks......but wouldn't common sense dictate not to do so a 3rd, 4th and 5th time?

Or are you just a very positive person, in general?

I'd be expecting BMW to replace it free of charge, personally.

First year issues, this is why I wait a little bit before buying a key chain

Happened to me at Welt the day I picked up my F80. Went back to the store and I think they gave me a better replacement.

Why even use one of these? It makes the key cumbersome and just a nuisance in the pockets. Or maybe it's because I don't have comfort access so this would be of no benefit to me; only delays and negatives lol.

Not sure if its a cultural thing or not, but I carry my keys and wallet in my front pocket (never have anything in my rear pockets). Because of comfort access, my keys remain at the bottom of my pocket and my wallet on top of them - and several times on getting in the car the wallet pressed the right buttons and the boot (trunk) popped open.

So I have one (exactly like the pick above - the red Sport Line one) to stop my wallet from doing that. it's annoying that it's more bulky, but not as annoying as getting out to close the boot.

That's on my 335i of course. But once my M3 arrives, I'll either keep the same case, or get a new one, but I definitely need one.

True. It's only worth if you have comfort access like you said. Mine is always either in my bag or pocket.

Agreed, like they use to...it use to be a nice touch. Now unfortunately most of this "lifestyle" stuff or whatever they call it, is just eye candy self promotion junk.

I got it to protect my key. The sole purpose of my key is to let my car know i'm next to it. Also, stops unwanted button presses.
