The speculation now is 3.6 twin turbo with at least 425hp. 7sp manual and 8sp auto, with dual clutch further down the road. Weight reduction(current base 3.6 ATS weighs mid 3,400lbs). It will be close. I would be hesitant to bet against the ATS-V. It would not be the first time a Caddy lapped the ring quicker than its BMW rival.

That does not strike me as particularly credible. I'd bet against it. LT4 in the CTS-V seems likely if this 4.5L V8 either fails to materialize or is not going to arrive before the 7 Series / S Class competitor.

I think from cost perspective, Cadillac will use the CTS Vsport 3.6 TT engine with better exhaust for sporty sound and dial it up to 450HP just to be ahead of the M3/M4.

I would never buy a Caddy simply because of their styling, but I hope for the good of all of us consumers in this segment that it gives the M3 a serious run for its money or even beats it. bring it on.

Don't care if it's quicker than a Veyron, it'll be a horrible thing to behold like all Cadillacs. Does move nicely though ......

GM knows how to make a chassis. Sure it will be a great alternative to the F8X. But the V6 sounds like a snooze show, and it will probably have a shite auto.

I went to the local Cadillac dealership and drove the ATS 3.6 for fun and I was absolutely blown away by its chassis. That car was without a doubt the best handling "standard" (i.e., non-M, non-AMG, non-V, non-RS/Quattro, etc.) sedan I've ever driven. The ATS made my old F30 M Sport 335i (which had every single M Performance part installed) feel like a pontoon boat. The damping was phenomenal. There was very little to no body roll and yet, the damping was perfect, irrespective of road surface quality. I cannot praise Cadillac's Magnetic Ride Control enough. Furthermore, the steering was brilliant (nice weighting, plenty of feedback, and precise). As far as the interior is concerned, the seats were great but I was not a fan of the infotainment/multimedia system. Regarding the exterior, photos don't do the ATS justice. It looks much better in person. That said, I fully realize the exterior styling is polarizing. The only letdown was the 3.6L motor. It sounded decent at WOT but this is a car where the chassis completely dominates/outshines the motor. All that said, I think the ATS-V is going to be an absolute weapon. I cannot wait to drive one.

Great post, @ybbiz34.
Now that my F80 purchase is off the table, the C63 and ATS-V sedans have been bumped up to the top of my list. I'd put the C63 first if I had to make the blind choice today, but since the C63 won't hit the streets before ATS-V specs are known (though it will hit the streets months before the ATS-V itself does, I suspect), who knows what will happen. With GM's track record lately, I have no doubt they are going to hit a home run with this car. And, while it's complete speculation, I have this feeling that the turbo V6 is going to make more than the 425hp it puts out in the CTS V-Sport, despite what most outlets seem to be predicting. AWD is still technically possible too and that would add quite the plot twist if it came to pass. Things get very exciting next year for sure. Choices benefit everyone. |

not wild about the styling, the CTSV2 looks pretty bad-ass, this car and the new CTS seem to have been smoothed/softened a bit. I was not impressed with the ATS sedan's amount of legroom.

I believe PDK shifts are milliseconds, .05 seconds since the second clutch is spun up. Or GM accidently left the Porsche in Drive. Follow up, GM measures it from when the lever is pulled. So total *shift* time maybe the same but I bet there's more time under power with PDK and a double clutch trans.

Cadillac ATS-V
More competition and it looks good! Can't wait for the full specs to be released.

Never liked the ATS series look wise. I hope they toned down the plastic chrome interior.
I'ts going to handle amazing I'm sure, but it looks too NASCAR for me. Too few curves and lacks the sculptured metal like the M3/M4 imho.
