I agree that the DCT is a great transmission, but you shouldn't be shifting in fast bends anyway. Get your shifting done before the corner!
He said "in fast bends" though. So his point is still valid. The bend might be very long (high speed), or bends are so dense (slow one exiting right into a fast one) that there's still value in keeping both hands on the steering wheel

Also, Formula 1 cars only have a clutch to roll or control the launch/start, then it's all paddle shifting similar to DCT.

I drove a few 370z with the auto rev-match feature, and I used it once or twice to see how well it worked, and turned it off since. YMMV.

Auto Rev Match on the MT: Love it or hate it?

For those of you with the MT: How do you feel about the auto rev match 'feature'? On my test drive it seemed 'ok' but I'm not sure how I would feel about having it on all the time. I understand you can turn it off, but the only way to do it is by putting it int sport +, which makes the the throttle response a bit over the top for tooling around town. So, for those of you who have the manual, is it annoying to you? Or is it no big deal?

sounds cool when I downshift coming to a stop... but I used to rev match on my E46; I miss doing it myself. I feel lazy. If i don't want the rev match, I just tap the M1 button

I absolutely love it. How can you not? If you don't like it, turn it off.

It makes me feel like I'm a better driver. Even though that's a false sense it still feels good. And it really does make the daily commute a little easier. Even though this likely my last new manual car, If I buy another in the future it will have that option. I do wish you could activate it in Sport+ though. BMW didn't give us enough flexibility with that.

Yeah: The perfect option would be to let you control the rev-matching independently of the throttle mode. I should be able to go into iDrive and turn it on/off no matter what 'mode' I'm in.

Love it. While I thouroughly enjoy having a clutch I never really loved rev. matching. I don't dislike it either, it's just something you do. I know many love to do it but I'm not one of them

I do love rev. matching my bike, feels much more natural to me than the right foot tap dance of a car.

Love it. You get used to it and then go into sport plus and get whiplash if you don't do it manually. That's how you know you miss it

After a few drives you won't even notice it anymore it will be so natural.

This is the first car I've owned with the auto rev match. And agree it makes you sound cooler than you really are in daily driving. Nice benefit...

Lol yeah the first couple shifts in sport plus are definitely an adjustment I bet the clutch life is much longer since there is less (or theoretically almost no) matching friction too.

It is really a nice feature, but I do wish it had a dedicated on/off button. Sometimes I'd like to keep the car in efficient quiet mode but still shift myself (maybe I'm weird).

Its a great feature, I really didn't know what to make of it at first but it has my full approval now, mostly because of how incredibly accurate/smooth it is.

I like it... sounds great and makes downshifts fast and easy. Now that I have gotten used to it in my M4, downshifts in my GTI have gotten rougher.

Not sure why it would be a bad thing. When I want to go BEAST mode, I do sport+ and it is raw, with no rev match. I love having that option.

Does the auto rev match have any impact on upshifts? I'd imagine this would be minimal given how "simple" it is to match revs on upshifts versus downshifts. However, the 1-2 shift can be a bit jerky in some cars based on the MT's ratios.

Yeah kind of.. It'll hold the revs for a little bit while you shift and after you shift it drops the RPMs it seems to where it should be and its smooth. In sport+ it seems like as soon as you put the clutch in the revs drop

I feel guilty about how much I ended up liking this feature - it certainly make the days when you just need to get somewhere and are not interested in the joy of driving - easiler

Rev matching is the heated seats of manual transmissions. Once you experience it you can't go back. Ever. I like to think I am a hot shoe, getting my downshifts smooth, upshifts quick and my heel toe heel on with no bunions or corns. I was worried when I was waiting for my car that the rev match would be a full Russian takeover of the transmission. No, it is not. It's just better than I am, better than anyone is, ever. Just get used to the speed that it matches on downshifts with the clutch outlet speed and the ONLY way passengers (consumers as I refer to them) know you downshifted is the sound. I know it has to be easier on the synchros long-term. I don't like to use Sport+ because you lose the auto rev match function. Sounds good in the parking lot, works well in a fast corner and generally does what I wish I could with my feet. I don't care if you went to Formula School, learned to walk with a stick shift or spent your middle years double clutching a Peterbilt on a long haul from Panacea Florida to Nirvanna Michigan; this is better than you are and can make you a better driver. I love it. DCT guys are never going to get a taste of this, they are just watching with their slow feet while we are dancing at prom

I love it. Makes me feel and drive like a pro because I really suck at it and have a lazy foot.

Just makes the whole ride much smoother less jerk

Love it. Makes everyday driving a smoother experience. Especially in low-traction situations. My E92 would wiggle all over the place when downshifting. Apologies to the heel-toe-obsessed...
