Carbon fiber wrap for F83 Roof panels
Has anyone done this? How did it come out? Pics!
I have Mineral White (which I now regret) so I am trying to salvage as I love the car and the interior. Thinking of wrapping just the two moveable roof panels in carbon fiber. Thoughts, suggestions, criticisms, etc.

I would love to see it also. Several places quoted around $600 for CF wrap on my F83 AW. I'm more worried that the wrap won't last as long as static roof with all the moving parts. |

I think the wrap will last perfectly fine, given that no parts of the roof actually touch the paint otherwise you'd have scratches everywhere. That being said, I am yet to see any cf wrap that is even remotely convincing and will just look cheap.

"I like both, but I only wanted Alpine White because of the difficulty in matching Mineral White Metallic in the case of needing any paint work. What are your regrets?"
Looks less bright, almost washed out compared to Alpine White.

Laid some 3m carbon wrap on roof....
Matches well with carbon mirror caps, except no glossy clearcoat. I presume that can be added?

I've seen the carbon fiber vinyl by 3M and Avery. I was pretty determined to wrap my roof in CF (I have the sunroof), but I was told it would only last a year in the CA heat.
Upclose, I didn't like the way it looked as it looked really really fake. Decided to go with gloss black and should last about 3 years.

What about clear coating or ceramic coating to protect the vinyl?

The most realistic CF vinyl out there and what I used in my interior as the car came with the silver instead of carbon trim is "SOTT W-1917 GLOSS ELEMENTO-6 Carbon Fiber Vinyl". A lot of vinyl shops are using this as well on roofs. I'd say it's 85% of the way there compared to real CF. Not cheap either.
Here's a sample on amazon of the product. Ignore the scarce/negative reviews. If you want actual product pictures on a roof, check out OnEighty's instagram page. This is the material they use. https://amzn.to/347y97S edit: here's an example Exclusive Vinyl out in NY just posted of SOTT CF vinyl. |
