So no, not limited to V8s. BMW of past just happened to make some very good engines in that range of displacements.

This category included 911s 3.6 l engine, GT3 engine and McClaren twin turbo v8 engine to name a few. Porsche GT3 is a big feat to beat out. Also included a ton of others

That said, I've recently gotten to use E0 gas (ethanol free gas). I would not be honest if i did not mention how big a difference it makes to low RPM drive ability of the engine. There is definitively a choke, sluggishness caused by E10 10% ethanol that is not affecting full open throttle but really is strangling the engine low RPM. Since i use E0, i roll off with cold engine with the engine feeling very smooth and responsive. Before with E10 it spout out torque but then looses some in low RPM. All that goes away with E0. People in E5 countries (Finland, UK) are more lucky. High rev NA engines really hate ethanol in any amount when it comes to low RPM transitional torque (not talking about peak power and TC applications) |

Absolutely correct, you can add the VR38DETT (R35 GT-R Engine) to the list of kills as well

This thread is amusing....and loaded with self delusion and justification....reminds me so much of the old E46 M3 threads....one poster who claims to be unbiased called the old M3 the non-civic M3. Haters gonna hate.
lighter, faster and better fuel economy is the future. The M4 delivered. It does not make it a better car or X% better, just did what the customers claimed they wanted. Obviously the public (and not this forum) agree, "BMW’s new M4 Coupe and 3 Series sedans had a 47 percent sales increase from a year earlier on a brand-leading 14,835 sales." In fact in my area I see more F ms than E ms these days. I bet money aside, if offered an even trade many many would switch

Why? If you have driven one yoy know it doesn't lack power so a few more hp won't change anything about parts it lacks. Probably fall even flatter on face at upper rpms with more mid range power.

What I noticed at Hutchison Island Race Track was that the M4 was given to torque surges, a trait that is not particularly desirable at mid-corner. I anticipate that they will calm this tendency in future.

Know several now who have sold/gotten out of leases on the new F8x and gone back to E9x platform. Don't recall this phenomenon occurring with the E46.

I gotta say, that interior is nice. I can get something like this in my E series but it'll cost me. Love the stitching on the dash, etc. Is this an option or ZCP thing? Or standard now? Wonder if those seats will work in an E series.

In regards to this debate, I'm planning on adding an F80 ZCP to my garage, but if it came down to it, I'm still picking the E92 every time. Out of the E36, E92 and F80, the E92 is the one I will never sell.

I'm not a fan of those wheels either, but to each their own. If the F8X had come with a 4.4 (even TT) V8 I'd be more interested in it =)

Cooling was not one of the f80 engines pitfalls. That thing stayed pegged at cool temps no matter how I pushed it. Was very impressive track ready car if you enjoyed the character of the engine and car that is
