I've been taking down 100 year old birches . They're so bad I had to put my trusted axe to the pasture and get a chopping machine. They come with manuals. First rule: nobody under 18 gets to use one. 2nd rule, no engineering. 3rd rule, only 3 hours per day allowed to ensure stamina. The first rule is important. Those machines are the main cause of hand surgery for kids these days here. They seem harmless basically. The second rule I also do get since you can bypass the safety features and be stuck. The third rule really bit my ass today. So I've been harvesting lumber. I'm so fucking awesome at that I now have new tools banned from me. I do get to chop them still and with the machine that happens fairly easily. One just needs to lift the 100 kg to the thingy. Then one has to lift the 50 kg to the thingy. Then the 25 kg, then the material that looks like toothpicks compared to the first log lifted has to be piled and by the time you've balanced a log to the machine, you just fucking don't have the energy to get your face away from the disaster zone after three hours. Frosty logs can be feisty. But I'm lazy, and I know better. So I came up with the coolest mod ever. I put a leaver extension to the bit that moves the log to the thing that cuts it and I found a broom leaver that operates the power. That got my face away from the action but I still needed hands to hold the huge logs so I enlisted the kids to use the leavers from the safety they provided. Kid number one and two were passable at the job. Kid number three read the safety manual and refused to help. The kid number four at the age of six was absolutely awesome at it. And by awesome I mean, he spent 6 hours pushing those leavers perfectly even when I pegged for a break since it was my ass that did all the lifting and hauling . My ass hurts, my back is shot to shit. My hands, the parts that still have skin just hurt probably because the nerve endings are still attached to me. We did the hardest parts of 3/7 ancient birches. I'm ready to cry if he is as eager tomorrow to help because I'm in for an other complete beating. There is something awesomely awesome in this story but I just need to make sure you all know my son is a monster before I get to it. Oh, and before that, those log splitting machines are seriously not to be used by kids. If anyone tells you differently call cps. An axe is safe compared to them. My mod makes it safe for the operator but not for the one doing the hauling without a perfect system. But. Now let's get to it. So I calculated the weight of the heavier pieces I lifted and fine, they were only 85kg but I needed the 15 for my ego. We actually put one on a scale cuz I might have complained a bit so they're heavy! My side, the whole right side is not bitching. Like at all. Again, the ribs, the muscles I pulled and the muscles some whack job surgeon wanted to stitch back can handle lifting and some accuracy again! My lung even seems to be working again for me, and not just to inflict pain on me. (But seriously, the surgeon had it right. His assessment was that it's more likely I would've stayed still to recover from an operation than I had been doing from a tiny pile of injuries he also is one of the best in the country and stupid enough to meet me just because my mean uncle thought I took stupidity to a suicidal level) So fuck yeah. I'm back! And those wood chopping machines are horrible. With an axe I would've had the time to breath.

What model did you get - the 20 ton splitter? That's the one I rented - did a fantastic job of most of the logs.
That being said, there was still a few it could split without a little help from me and a sledgehammer. The maul would get stuck / buried in the log, but not split it, so I'd raise the log up a little and knock it off with the sledgehammer, and then reposition 180 degrees, and then it would split. But we were talking probably close to 3ft diameter logs. |

That's now 2m tall, 25 m long two piles wide and growing. That's my 190 cm tall father-in-law standing in front of it. I have an axe for the too big to split by machine. I also have a ton of anger issues I can take on the stupid wood.

I have to go measure the diameter of one now to see what I've been dealing with. 3ft seems a bit much that's a meter.
Please hold.

That's about 2 ft and has is two meters round. Fine, it was the closest one I could find so I guess theoretically some might be bigger but no way any of them were 3ft from their diameter . Fun fact. Finns moved to Canada and the northern states to be lumber jacks. If you guys cut those trees that huge for fun, I guess we figured out why my family stayed here with the toothpicks.

Ran around inside the house checking because I wasn't certain that it didn't in fact fall on the house. Then, in the great wisdom I always exhibit at all times, I ran outside to check the outside with a flashlight. While limbs were falling off trees all around me. Then I realized how stupid that was (because when they fell, some were point first and they just buried themselves in the ground...wouldn't want to have that hit me), so I ran back inside. |

When I first saw the X3M, I thought it was a fake poser badge, and was about to take a photograph. Found out they do have X3M.

I like the X3M and the X4M. It is about time BMW did something like that with all the AMGs and Porsche SUVs running about.
Although the X3M/X4M are almost as pricey as a Macan Turbo. I would... probably take the Macan Turbo actually despite how much I HATE the PCM. P.S. For the first time in... 132 years, Downtown LA did not hit at least 70 degrees in February. Aka, it's been very strange here in LA.

Yesterday a log tried to kill me, and then my great aunt chopped it in two on her first blow. Her second blow sent the head of the axe to her tyre and it exploded.
Today, I was still feeling all kinds of feminine and powerless and weak when I took the tyre to the shop. I swear, after actually seeing it in daylight I might have cried a bit from relief. First, she isn't as strong as I thought for a day. Second, she had four nails in her tyre. In one tyre. I still don't know how it managed to go empty right after the axes head struck it but after I got that one tyre changed, I went and looked at all her tyres. I swear I've seen worse tyres, I hope I have. She had 11 nails and bolts in hers. 3/4 tyres were basically one huge hole. But anyway. I thought for a day my aunt is so strong she can slice a tyre with an axe from a distance. That's concludes my weekend update.
