e85 in car for over a year issues?

Hey guys I had my car sit at a shop over a year with E85 in the tank.

Reason being the timing chain snapped and caused the valves and pistons to collide. Engine rebuild was an absolute nightmare due to a shop not know what they're doing and I had to take it somewhere else.

Now my question is with the e85 sitting in the tank for that long would it cause any major issues for my new forged engine?

The fuel filter was clogged up and cleaned already and will order a new filter for this.

How about the injectors or anything else?

Just want to make sure this engine lasts

I left e85 in my z06 for years once. Believe it or not I was able to start it but some of my injectors were sticking.

Drain the tank and put in some 91 and see if the injectors come back to life

Drain it and do not try to drive it or start it. Even a few months of E85 sitting is potentially not good for the fuel system. There's probably a ton of water/moisture in there as well. Just buy a manual siphon like this and get that old fuel out. If you are having trouble pumping it from the fill port just remove the rear seat and remove the fuel pump (you'll want this spanner tool to remove the fuel pump retention ring) and you'll have very easy access to pump that old E85 out.

What did the fuel filter look like? A year is a while but not super long, there’s a good chance the fuel is still good but it might be stale. However on a newly rebuilt motor, I’d probably get some fresh fuel in there.

I never saw it myself but my mechanic said it was gunked up. Car was having issues starting up. Issue was low pressure to the rails which was from the filter being clogged

Have a trained BMW mechanic or BMW Indy shop drain the fuel tank. They can also disassemble the LPFP and install a new filter/screen.

Break in an engine using gasoline, not hot fuel or E-mix.

Is that what Billiam recommends for an engine break-in?

Yes, gasoline and stock tune (or stock power). E85 tends to have him out oil and you don’t want that during break in. Also make sure to use break in oil. I used Motul Break In Oil 10W40 for the first 500mi, making sure to completely warm up the car first.

You can replace the pump inlet sock only. The actual filter is in the outlet and is non replaceable. It's built into the hat and sealed. The only way to replace it is to get a new pump assembly. Thanks BMW.
OP, don't start it and if you can don't even plug the battery back in (assuming it was disconnected). These cars use a fuel pump prime sequence that is triggered but opening the doors and such. Try to avoid doing any of that and maybe you can save the pump and just siphon/pump out the old E85.

What the first shop told me is they drained it before they started it

Luckily I have a stage 4 LPFP that came with a fuel filter so changing that isn't too hard. Just ordered one and will replace it soon. Its already been cleaned but rather just get a new one any way

You can send off the injectors to have them cleaned/tested. That fuel is going to be nasty...
