Honestly though if I had DCT I prob wouldnt do the change. Its a much more involved process as far as I know compared to the 6mt fluid change. Perhaps if you are nearing 100k miles it would be something to consider but if its relatively low mileage I wouldnt bother with DCT.
how much you paid for everything?

BMW genuine oil (BMW branded Pentosin DCTF1) using my friend's staff employee discount of 25%

Worked out to be slightly cheaper than the oem fluid elsewhere.

Any other tips or tricks you can pass on to the rest of us? Was it just a matter of filling it till it flows out then starting it and bringing it up to the proper temp, running it thru the gears and then topping it off?

Nope, for the 6MT this job is ridiculously easy from a DIY perspective. According to the factory maintenance procedures, there is no requirement to go back in and top off after you complete this procedure. The only temperature requirement mentioned is to have the oil at normal operating temperature before draining, which just helps to drain out as much of the old oil as possible. I followed the factory maintenance procedures without issue.

We changed the DCT pan and the internal filter as well as change the one time use bolts. We got out around 7L. We used ISTA for monitoring gearbox temp.

My car has around 65k kms and have to say the gearbox is definitely smoother. Beforehand, my car would jerk whenever it shifted from 1st to 2nd gear when it was cold and one bar on the drivelogic mode. It would shift from 1st gear at about 2k rpm and drop to about 1.3k rpm in 2nd gear and it would do like a strong jerking motion of the car back and forth for a few times before it settles after accelerating again. Now that I have done the DCT fluid change, it does not do it anymore and I have not even reset DCT clutch adaptations as my friend said best to reset DCT clutch adaptations whenever you change the actual hardware of the transmission like mechatronics or something. I also have the GTS transmission flash. High rpm shifts at operating temperatures feels more or less the same but its mostly when its cold, the car's gearbox feels a lot smoother
I have that strong jerk as whell and my garage recommends dct fluid change.

which oil did you use?

thanks

edit : just saw it hehe.

This is odd. Audi DSG fluid changes are done religiously every 40k (or sooner) and Porsche looks to do it every 60k or so. Why BMW would say its lifetime fill is beyond me.

try GTS flash it makes the car more driveable i heard and reduces that shakiness at low speeds. do you still feel it in the least aggressive shift setting ? D1

Sorry for late reply. Did not catch your question in time.

As for tips and tricks, make sure you have all the components for the service. DCT pan and internal filter, at least 7 litres of Oem fluid and the one time use bolts.

When you drain it all out, make sure the DCT is at full operating temperature to drain as much of the fluid out as possible. Then put the fluid back into the DCT till it starts dripping out. Let the transmission cool down to about 40 degrees. Add in fluid again till it starts dripping out again. And voila, done!

Hmmm, I was under the impression you needed the fancy BMW tool to do it properly? To run the pump without the engine on?

Yes sorry forgot to mention that crucial part. You need ISTA for monitoring of gearbox temp and the operation of the pump after you have drained the fluid to squeeze out any extra fluid in the gearbox. My friend works at a BMW dealer and was able to do it for me

Roughly how much is the DCT service.

With labor I hear it's around $~1k at a independent shop.

That's extremely cheap! For an indy, it would be very cheap as well

Parts and fluid amounted to around 700 USD for everything Genuine BMW. May be able to get it cheaper if using OE parts and fluid.

That is very inexpensive.

As a reminder to everyone, always consider doing an analysis of the oil if you are curious about if it was the right thing to do at the given mileage.

I can't imagine leaving the DCT fluid in the car for more than 40K miles. After my experience with the GTR and it's service interval of about 36K, I'm in no way a believer of the "lifetime" fluid. After watching temps that these things see, no fluid would hold up in any way to 250+ degree temps. Nissan even stated in its owner's manual that if you hit over 260 degrees at any time, the fluid had to go. Now granted the GTR does not come from the factory with a sufficient trans cooler (actually used engine coolant and a tiny exchanger) temps got way high very quickly on track. We're talking 2 to 3 hard laps at Thunder Hill for example.

I'm at 19K now and plan to swap out the fluid and filters at about 40K.

That sounds early from what I have read. Make sure you have it tested and report back please!

Me same, oil and filter changed and is same.
DCT GTS from bm3 car not smooth and delay D->R still there
THOR CS(and yes thor cs works on my 2015 car without errors) is very fast but not so smooth on 3->2->1 (doesnt matter D/S 1,2,3)
THOR GTS is perfect, FAST D->R, when coming to a stop everything is smooth, almost eliminate all sounds, in 80% of cases no sounds(i checked my diff, driveshafts and propershaft and they are in perfect condition)

Is all about the gearbox software, if clutch not full disengage at right time when you try to stop car create clunk sounds on transmision.

Defenetly thor gts is not same software as bm3 gts.
