16' M3 Harmon Kardon crackling/popping
From what I understand some M3/M4's with HK are experiencing a crackling/popping from the speakers? I noticed this immediately after picking up my M and thought it was my hearing. Anyone have a link to more information/root cause/fix?
My car is a 16 LCI M3. Thank you in advance. Last edited by drexplode; 01-21-2016 at 11:23 AM.. |

My car was in last week for the Driveshaft recall (replaced) and they ordered a new amp to fix the same crackle issue with the speakers...the amp is on back order...mine has done the same crackling thing since I picked it up at the dealer...but it only does it on Sat. radio

So is this a more widespread issue? I'm picking up my Jan 16 production M3 and hoping I don't have one of the afflicted amps.

My '16 M3 has this issue off and on only on when I listen to Sat radio (Howard Stern), haven't really brought it up to the dealer as an issue but I am curious to hear if the issue goes away after they replace the amp, please keep us posted.

Seems like a problem I had with my HK.
Could try this and see if it fixes it: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...8&postcount=25

Mine does it also. Just on satellite radio, sounds like a small rock hitting the windshield or a plastic bottle being crushed.
I'll take it up with my SA at my 1200 mile service. |

My 16 also does this but only when I connect my phone directly through the USB port. I'll also bring this up once I go in for my 1200 mile service lol (thought It was just me)

I'll have to give it a listen Dr. I never Iliad XM so it's possible I have the issue too.

My problem (and others) was passenger rear speaker. It sounded horrible listening to any talk radio. Problem gone with Bavsound speaker upgrade.

still no word from the dealership about HK replacement <thumbs down>
340i definitely pops and cracks - F80 produced in Aug 2015 / F30 produced in Feb 2016. Rubbish! |

I brought it up to my SA during the break in service last week. The shop foreman said he would do some research into it.
They called me back this morning and told me that BMW is aware of the issue but there is not yet a solution and it is under investigation. He sent me a scanned copy of a "BMW Advanced Information" sheet. It says: Satellite Radio Popping noise - NBT EVO Applicable to F82, F33, and F30 No bulletin number Last Modified on 3/30/2016 Customer Complaint: "While using Satellite radio (SDARS) Popping noise heard intermittantly (that's how they spelled it) thru all speakers. Usually able to reproduce the nose when changing channels. Current Recommendation: Check for stored faults. Diagnose any related antenna or head unit fault codes. If no other faults are found make no repair attempt at this time. This is currently under investigation. |
