I don't think I posted this here yet, but if so, forgive the repost!

This was my first time at Laguna Seca! I really love this track, and I can't wait to come back again. Unfortunately by the end of the second session my brake fluid was overcooked and the brakes were very spongy, so I was early braking and not very aggressive by the time I started to find faster lines. Regardless, I managed a 1:50.48 on a clean run. I was on pace for a 1:48 on a later lap according to my Garmin Catalyst, but had to slow down for traffic at turn 11. I think with some more seat time, Castro SRF, and a bit more camber I can get into the mid 40's consistently. Any feedback is VERY welcome!

If you go flat through T1, you'll hit 125+ before braking for Andretti hairpin T2. You have to work up to it, but it makes a huge difference.

I'll watch the rest later

Yes def go flat through turn 1, cut in on the left to straighten out the turn. Most everywhere else, brake much later and much harder, carry more speed through the corners, apex a bit later and power out of the corner more aggressively.

Get the SPL rear toe arms w/ eccentric lockout & sealed front monoballs from Bimmerworld or Turner. You will have much better feel on/near the limit.

Yup, it definitely took awhile to find that line through T1 and stopped braking. I managed to get through with throttle maintenance, now I have to get through flat out.

Yup, definitely need to brake harder and later, but by this lap, my brakes were spongy and I had to brake early. Flushed and replaced with Castrol SRF. Watching the video you are definitely right, more speed, apex later, power earlier. Thanks!

First time tracking the F80 M3. What a beast, saw 151mph on the back straight but GPS says 148mph. I was scared of the S55 torque but after driving the car, it was very easy to modulate. Traction control fully off after the first session. First time using 200TW tires, i bought a used set of track wheels and they had enough thread for 1 DE event. Would probably be killed in 1 open track day. My mind was blown away with the grip and ease of 200tw tires... I know i left some time on the table. I could be quicker if i had more time. It was last session of the event and novice and intermediate group combined... Purposely lined up first so i could stay out of traffic.
Also experienced heatsoak following my buddies through traffic... E46 M3s pulled away from me...

The F80 was fun on the track. Im now excited to try new RE71Rs on my
E36 M3 track car.
2:12 and first time tracking the F80 at the Glen? Solid af!

Visited Thompson Speedway Friday with SCDA for the first time. The track was technical and a lot more fun than others I talked to had previously mentioned.

Managed a 1:21.4 though that will be further whittled down by a few seconds on fresher, not chorded tires and more experience pushing the limits at this track.

Had the Garmin Catalyst borrowed from a friend to evaluate. The optimal lap according to the device is a 2:05, and it seems plausible. For one, with just another session or two and clear laps I could have easily broken into the 2:06's. And a friend who is a much better driver did get into the 06's with ease driving my car, he thinks 04's are achievable.

Anyway, I'm excited. Got some very good advice from my racer friend which along with feedback from SYT_Shadow and his brother, are leading to a marked evolution in my driving habits. Many thanks guys, it is hugely appreciated.

Video recorded off the Catalyst.

nice! I love SCDA events. The staff are always organized and the car/driver diversity keeps it extra interesting. My next event with them is LRP August 20 and a 2 day run at WGI August 30-31. Bimmerposters unite.

I'll be there August 20th as well. Was set for the WGI event as well but then scheduled a vacation for those dates so had to cancel the WGI trip.

200TW tires are *very* sticky, the largest difference for me vs DOT slicks is longevity (at least vs the BFG R1's).

And I'm surprised to hear you experienced heatsoak, and especially to not only be down to e9x pace in straights... but e46! Have you tried running a stage 0+ in hotter days?

My session above was in the middle of August and zero heat issues, my CS is completely stock power-wise though.

I saw your video previously. Great driving!

I really liked how the A052s has some margin with tire slip and helps rotate the car... very comfortable and predictable.

I was behind a car 90% of the laps also going through traffic and it was the novice/intermediate combined group(sunday) so awareness and point bys werent so abundant. The top mount intercooler was hot to the touch after the session. Normally its cool to the touch. Its possible the tune was pulling timing or something due to high IAT. Its the only time i experienced heatsoak that weekend.

Never had to think about something like that in my E36 M3 track car before... I normally get faster lap times drafting a faster car in front of me lol.

Did you guys run the club course one day, what time did you put down? Assuming you should be good for :35-36 now which is awesome.

We did! This was a cool little one day regional TT event held by Cincy SCCA Region. It was my first time running the club config and we only ran two sessions in the morning with my best being a mere 1:37.3. Was def slow in a few corners other than the chicane until I worked my confidence up on the pro course in the afternoon. I think low 36's are definitely on the table if I get to run it again.

Fastest two afternoon sessions were within a tenth of each other so I'm not sure how much more I had in her. The car felt the best it has since owning it though, hoping I finally have it dialed in! I'll be running the rest of the season on RT660 so hoping to get some W's at Gingerman and Road America vs the GM cars!
