Good grief, I’m wrong as usual. Just checked KBB values again for my 18 6MT Comp with 29k miles. Trade in is now $54k and look at private party good grief, that’s another 1.5-2k in the last couple weeks!

I've been getting bombarded too by my dealer and when I took my wife's care in for service at Volvo for my 2018 M3 6MT Comp fully loaded (minus carbon ceramic brakes) - 13k miles.
Very tempting but I don't know what I'd get. I barely drive the thing especially since the pandemic - i put less than 500 miles on it in the last 1.5 years!

I bought my 17 M3 for 52 and some change back in November and I can theoretically sell it for more.
I'm work for a big auto website and it's insane what we are seeing. On the flip side, look up prices for pedestrian cars like a Kia Telluride or even an F150 brand new. It's insane. |

The way I look at it now is like this. The value of cars will always go down like it does, but the baseline pricing has gone up because of the supply shortages from decreased new cars sales, increased chip shortages, increased demand from people afraid of public transport and new cars increased msrp on new modes cars. The increased msrp has been happening for decades but inflation caused it to rise faster than normal making used cars more desirable.
If you sell in this market you will get better deal, but if you need a replacement car you’ll loose money on the next car since it’ll also be overpriced. The M cars are actually going up in value less than the lower models because of the higher price range. I have a feeling the M model pricing will continue to rise as the other markets stabilize and new buyers realize the old prices are gone for good. The prices of the old 335 models have almost doubled since I sold mine in 2018 and that’s crazy to me, but to new buyers who never seen the old prices they wouldn’t know any different and see the kbb price near the asking and buy it since the kbb has gone up there ok work it. Had kbb stayed low then people would be less likely to ever pay the higher price since loans work against you when your buying a car way over priced. |

Only if you go used! I hate the idea of ever buying a new car considering how they absolutely tank the first couple years (especially expensive BMWs!) but right now would be the only time I'd advise buying new.

This hints that things are getting close to a peak, as Manheim auction price increases are dropping ( but still increasing )

i checked autotrader and see one car similar to mine. 2015 f80 6mt 30k miles loaded. asking 51k. I paid 47 two years ago. probably a bit high though. The market is getting flooded with paper handed folks.

Looks like a lot of owners are taking advantage of higher resale prices. Carmax is absolutely loaded up with 3/4s now, never seen them have this many at once!
Their prices are still very high. Wow if this bubble bursts dealers are going to take an absolute pounding, not to mention people paying $55k for an eight year old BMW with 40k miles on it! Should be interesting to see what happens. |

There are G8X's sitting on the lot being offered for less than MSRP. Pretty much any special order car that's custom built takes several months, especially now with the parts shortage. You're in the wrong forum if you feel the need to defend your purchase, bud. |

G80s are a bit difficult to find but G82s no problem if you look hard enough. They do seem to be getting a bit more scarce right now though, my 100 mile radius has definitely seen a decrease in available cars the last month. Around here MSRP is holding pretty solid, nobody was willing to deal on the cars except for a loyalty discount and some other $500 credit deal. I made it up on the trade in though as used prices are still nuts.
