Best Exhaust Setup for the F80
So I finally pulled the trigger and bolted on a full turbo-back setup (downpipes/midpipes/axle-back) on my F80– I will list them below from the back going to the engine:
1) REMARK Exhaust Axle-back 2) Active Autowerke Single Midpipe 3) Evolution Racewerks Catless Downpipe Also, I simply flashed the car with BM3 Stage 2 91 Gas (AGG). I made a post on my YouTube on the install and some sound clips as well. I'm not a professional so my editing skills are just average. Nonetheless, I tried to capture what I can during the takes. See link below: • Overall, I'm extremely happy with the results. If you hear the car in person, you won't even know that its an F80– the sound is completely different. It definitely eliminates the "weed-whacker" sound that our cars originally make. My setup has a deeper tone and growl. • When the valves are CLOSED, the sound is tamed— its slightly louder than stock on cruise and not too obnoxious. • When the valves are OPEN its extremely loud. Volume is definitely over the 120dB (I'm assuming because I've had a previous build setup at 108dB), but I will happily drive it with open valves on the freeway. The overall sound leans more towards a combination of Exotic and Muscle which makes it unique and personally, one of the best setups for our S55 engines. I'm generally happy that it doesn't sound like a weed-whacker anymore. If you guys like to hear more, follow me on Instagram @vlcsnrs (www.instagram.com/vlcsnrs). |

In the pix u posted here the tips look misaligned. On IG they look right, nice fat tips...
Now u need the 3 piece CF diffuser (Mike@X-PH) so the big tips match the rear.

This sounds straight terrible. I have an honest question, what about this exhaust sound makes you think it qualifies as the best sounding exhaust? Nothing about this is good.
Tip: Buy an equal length mid-pipe with resonators & test with the Remark axle back

Well this sounds like a broken one with the popcorn tune.

I had a tuned m235i and it was a german ricer with those loud burbles, popcorn, gunshots. I will not be doing this again. I eventually noticed people even on summer days, just roll up their windows when I was near, it's obnoxious and frankly, people don't really like it.
On a positive note when the exhaust sound is "coming down" without the pops, it has a good purr sound =) |

Efficient mode sounds close to stock, and is not obnoxiously loud. It gets really loud on M mode though. |

No, I like mine with EL and MPE and no popcorn tune because I'm not 12 and don't need attention

I deleted Cold Start because it was just annoying, deleted GTS roar because while I liked it it was just too loud, esp with the valves open, made a toddler cry at a gas station, that was the final straw.
I like the OEM pops and bangs which happen pretty often esp with the midpipe, I just don't like when people turn them to 11. I actually wouldn't mind hearing that rear section mated to my el setup.

My pops aggressiveness and duration were actually set to 2. I can't even imagine how 11 would sound like for me— it just doesn't suit me and its just not my preference. Same as the GTS roar and cold-start. It would be nice to have, but more annoying than nice. |

I like the clean sound deep throaty sound of Akrapovic Evolution. AA EL midpipe sounds nice, just wished they were less high pitched in the upper rpm range and deeper tone. Single turbo s55's are on another level, very supra 2jz sounding like. In the end it's your car, do what makes you feel happy
