Good driving roads in NY
I'm on LI but frequently go up to the bear mountain area, and wonder are there any google maps routes you guys have of good routes? I'd be willing to go anywhere really but have heard that area has a lot of goods roads.
Thanks much!

Seven lakes Drive in Harriman State Park. But go EARLY if you are doing a weekend drive. Gets crowded by mid-morning with people accessing the hiking trails, boat ramps and campgrounds. It was bonkers at the height of the pandemic with cars parked along the road, but it's calmed down now. But definitely go early.
You can also do a loop to include Arden Valley Road and Kawanauke Road. |

I went and did seven lakes this morning. Arden valley is closed currently. Kanawauke was filled with Prius drivers. Lol.
Saw a white F80, any of you guys? |

Arden Valley Rd. is one of my favorites but have noticed it's typically been closed over the past few years. Some great roads in the Bear Mountain Area but as icebiker said, lot of bicyclists/beach go-ers/etc...
More west you have NY-97 i.e. Hawks Nest along the Delaware River. NY-301 from Cold Spring to Carmel is a great cruise. Typically turn around in the parking lot on the left before you hit Gleneida Ave. You pass Canopus Lake along the way which is a nice spot to stop for a bit during the summer. NY-129 to NY-118 to NY-100 around the reservoir. You have the Croton Dam (start of 129) on one end and King Kone for some ice cream on the other (by I-684). |
