The issue is with the programming of the ASD ECU, not the coding. So VO coding (using the procedure in post #86) or changing the coded parameters on the basis of your old CAFD file is not going to help.

Instead, you need to update the firmware to the latest version (you could alternatively rollback to the version you had, but there is no point since the latest one appears to be bug-free). In order to do this, you can either ask your dealer to update your firmware again explaining the issue you are having, or you can do it yourself like Stryder and Nachbar did. Keep in mind however that updating the firmware (i.e., flashing) is a more delicate procedure than coding.

Thanks so much for clarifying. I'll try to PM shawn to see if he can help me through flashing the firmware for the ASD ECU. Really did like the ASD sounds

Adding to what was said, you also need a LiFePO4 charger in order to flash, that Shawn can't give you

Honestly, I'm so much happier with it off. My music sounds crisper and I can hear the turbos and the engine more from the front. There is also no cabin noise at 75-80mph anymore in comfort.

I wanted to test it without asd in the future. but now, not having a choice...
Now the car sounds in efficent, sport und sport+ nearly the same. i liked this effect switching from efficent to sport+ to hear and feel that difference.

Thats why I fixed mine. Still can switch ASD off with JB4 and then, when I close the flaps completely (also with JB4) it gets ultra-quiet in the cabin.

Update from my side.

ASD shows no error codes! Fact is, that since the last update, ASD sounds also in Sport and Sport+ so different that first i thought its complete off. Now after a view testdrives und i compared the sound with some gopro videos from the past with old iLevel, i know that ASD is so different up to about 3500rpm. there was such a deep V8 like generated sound. thats completly gone. instead the i may say natural sound from the engine is now amplified to the cabin. Thats all just a guess and my impression.

I have an F32 and I seem to have the same problem.
I can't get ASD to work anymore.

It used to work with the F82/S55... combo, but it doesn't anymore.

Dealer updated it back in November, but I didn't have the chance to fiddle with the car since then.

Today I tried coding and noting. It' seems like it's permanently off.

In Rheingold it originally threw the error "asd invalid coding data for equalising" but after I cleared it, it didn't spring back.

Right now it's set to the F82 config, but the ASD is definitely off (there was a big difference between the F32/N57 and F82/S55)

Any pointers on what I should test next?

Did you try to VO code your ASD to reset all changes?

In any case, since your dealer update was done at about the same time (November) as those of Stryder, Nachbar and Spikey, you probably got the same software version with the ASD bug.

If VO coding does not get your ASD back, I would ask your dealer to take a look at it or flash your ASD ECU with the latest software.

Thanks for the reply!

Yup, I tried, VO coding, but nothing luck

I'd be interested in trying to re-flash the ECU myself.
Is there a tutorial lying somewhere?
I think I have the latest (full) psdzdata, so I'd give it a go...

Small update...

I've flashed ASD to the latest version and it still doesn't seem to be working.
It doesn't throw any errors ... so I have no idea what's wrong :|

BTW, when I updated ASD, I think I got all the errors imaginable on the kombi and nav. I cleared the errors once the flashing of ASD was complete and everything seems to be fine, but for a first time coder this is a f^%#ing scare

Please tell me this is normal

Its still significantly louder in sport+ with my ASD disconnected. I love sport+ with the windows open.

Why did this happen?
This happened when the dealer updated the the software for a few different ECUs in the car. I don't know exactly which ECUs they touched, but ASD was one of them, and subsequently, ASD stopped functioning. The update applied was to fix the problem of ConnectedDrive/RTTI not working, here is a well documented thread on this problem with 2016s: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1169492

How do I get it to not happen to me?
If you can live with the ConnectedDrive/RTTI not working, then don't ask the dealer to touch your software, and you will be fine. In retrospect, not having RTTI was way less of a problem than a borked ASD ECU.

Oh no! This already happened to me. How do I fix it?
- The Simple Way:
Tell the dealer that the ASD ECU software is not functioning properly and requires a re-flash, and tell them to re-flash it. Your dealer may or may not be able to handle this without causing other issues.

- The Straight Forward Way:
Obtain coding cable and coding software, and re-flash the ASD ECU yourself. ONLY RE-FLASH THE ASD ECU. NOTHING ELSE. Here is a good thread on becoming familiar with the coding software and its processes: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1125375, meanwhile, here is another thread that deals with the specific procedures in flashing an ECU entirely, rather than re-coding it: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=694166, please read them thoroughly. Carelessness could end up wrecking your ECU.

- The Correct Way:
  1. Fire up Rheingold, connect to car, verify that ASD is throwing fault code of not being able to equalise.
  2. Clear fault code. Disconnect from car in Rheingold. Reconnect and verify that fault comes back.
  3. Disconnect and exit Rheingold.
  4. Turn off engine, turn off accessories. Connect battery charger.
  5. Turn car ON but do not start engine.
  6. Turn light switch to parking lights.
  7. Connect and open coding software.
  8. Follow guide posted above, and go through the steps to generate and be ready to execute TAL.
  9. Start and execute TAL.
  10. TAL execution should take no more than 2 minutes.
  11. Upon finishing, you might see warning messages for different modules in the car. This is normal.
  12. Reconnect and fire up Rheingold. Clear all fault codes.
  13. Cycle car. Drive. Verify behavior. Reconnect and verify no fault codes.
  14. VOILA!

You might run into quite a few different hiccups in the process above of not having the right file or not being able to generate the right file. That's normal. Feel free to ask questions.
I tried to do the same thing but it still not working.
Before flashing i have selected only ‘blFlash’ & ‘swDeploy’ & ‘cdDeploy’ without ibaDeploy.
For I-Step (shipm.) i have selected the same value as the I-Step (target.) as this is the latest one.
Should i try with an earlier version and with ibaDeploy selected?

ibaDeploy makes no difference for ASD.

Has anyone else been able to get this to work using a simpler way? This procedure seems complicated.

Man I hope my AS goes away when I take my car in for the next service. You guys are so lucky!

I can't stand hearing engine sounds from behind me. What genius thought of, and then implemented, such a ridiculous waste of engineering? At least pump out the falseness from the correct orientation respective of the engine.
