It's not so much the e85 as much as it is that a lot of e85 tunes crank up the HPFP to close to 250bar (200 or 205 is stock).

Does it fail open or closed? Id probably keep an oil change worth of oil handy too, if they fail open.

Happened to me tonight. I was at the 1/4 mile track. Did 10 passes. On the last pass, I got a drivetrain malfunction with injector 5 failed and shut off that injector. I limped the car home 8 miles. Scared to turn off and possibility of not restarting and a tow. Made it home. Restarted the car, code went away, and everything is back to normal.

Seems like E85 is problematic on the S55. This is the 4th or 5th thread I've read in the span of just 10-15mins. Just like COVID-19, I can only imagine the level of "under-reported" or "not reported" cases out there.
Is there an aftermarket fuel injector solution?

Reflash and went back to pump gas. Misfire was still present. Added Lucas Oil fuel injection cleaner with my doubts, it cleared up most of the misfires on WOT. This week I changed the Bosch oem to NGK 97506 and car is running great again. No misfires or hiccups.

I swear by the Lucas oil upper cylinder lubricant/ fuel system cleaner. I Use an entire 32oz bottle when I buy any car (4 8oz doses per tank) then use it when I cycle pump gas at 8oz per tank for maintenance. Zero issue with almost 12k miles of e85 usage on this car plus countless other e85 converted builds Ive done.
Tom is right, for every reported failure, there’s 100’s of cars running perfectly fine.

An injector was stuck open, dumping fuel into my exhaust which happens to be an MPE. Straight away I expected the worst, the exhaust itself would be thousands to replace. I was working away, they kept the car in and my partner dealt with the garage. A 2018 M5 had not long been in with the same issue, they changed 1 injector and within 2 weeks it happened again only this time the rest of the bank of 4 had gone because they'd only changed 1 and it wasn't in sync with the other 3 apparently? Because of that, they changed the bank of 3 with the plugs, and drained the small amount of fuel from the exhaust and luckily there was no damage. They done this as a goodwill gesture as the car was out of warranty, cost me the diagnostic fee only. |

Just had my '18 M3 with 5,500mi throw a code for injector failure on cylinder #5. I just got it a week ago but luckily it's still under warranty. Dealer got me squared away with a new injector but I'm want to know why this his happening with such low miles. I'll see what else I find out when I go to pick it up on Tuesday.

No e85 here, but running oodles of race fuel. 60k miles and not a hiccup from the fuel system. Seems like using a lubricant with the e85 is cheap insurance to get longer life out of the injectors.
