Right, because it's important for your diesel to clip apexes as soon as it's out of the garage. Maybe you should sue BMW for pain and suffering.

I did not note that my F10 is a diesel. You've obtained that information somewhere else and it's irrelevant. One can buy the F10 with a huge V8 petrol engine and the MSport suspension.

But regardless of that fact, read your own post again. That is exactly my point. There's less value in remembering the setting on a 5 series, and more value in remembering the setting on M4, yet BMW manufactures exactly the opposite.

I should clarify however -- I tried it today on the F10 and it only remembers Comfort, Comfort+ and ECO PRO. It does not remember Sport mode.

I suspect this is due to fuel economy or maybe regulatory. That gives an idea why M3/M4/M5/M6 is set to Efficient, Sport, Sport by default. Efficient maps the engine to lowest fuel consumption (which maybe BMW has to do by some legal status in certain jurisdictions to prevent lawsuits?), but with one press of the throttle mapping button next to the shifter, the car is in Sport, Sport, Sport. That would explain why steering and suspension comes in Sport & Sport by default.

Are there not M Drive settings specific to your key? What happens when you push right on the knob when in the M Drive menu? In the E92 it brought up a menu of how you wanted the car to start, at least throttle and suspension settings.

Good point, there maybe a submenu under the M menu on idrive. It took me a couple months to figure this out.

What was BMW thinking here? The issue is not that I can just press the M button, the issue is that the default preset makes no sense for any driving.

It's as if you got a computer and by default every time you turn it on the keyboard layout is set to Russian no matter what is your primary language and region. Yes you can change it to English with one click but how does that make any sense of usability?

Plus in this case the user is wasting one of the M buttons, while otherwise e.g. M1 could be a lighter sport mode and M2 a "fuller" sport mode.
The other part that gets me on this topic is that it WILL remember many things based on last settings or key specific.... things like climate, radio, seat, mirrors etc. (even Auto start/stop on US models) but not drive settings. The car is billed as a drivers car. I have M1 and M2 set for my spirited driving and my wife's spirited driving, so using one of those is an inconvenience. Like @kinimod says, it is not like it blows up on ignition or anything, it is just highly illogical based on the way they have handled other things.

The manual does not mention it, and no one has posted pictures if it.

Conclusion: no such feature.

Even the M5/M6, which can assign dozens of settings to the key, do not support this as far as I know.

When I start my BMW M4 it's default setting for throttle, dampers and steering is efficient-sport-sport but I have M1 mode set to efficient-comfort-comfort as I don't want dampers and steering to sport. Does any F8x owners know how to change the settings for the throttle, dampers and steering. What are you're settings when you first get into your car?

Unfortunately that's the new M3/M4 start-up config + It can't be user configured via the i-drive!

I've also had to set my M1 up as follows as a result:
Engine: Efficient
Suspension/Chassis: Comfort
Steering: Comfort
Transmission: D1

Annoying as it's a waste of M1 however I’ve become tired of having to hit the Steering and Suspension buttons x2 each (to get from default Sport back to Comfort) in addition to de-activating the Start-Stop (i.e. 5 unnecessary button presses), every time I start the car for my daily commute.

I think the start-up default should be everything in Efficient/Comfort, freeing M1 to be whatever intermediate combination each person prefers.

Exactly! I was a bit annoyed to use my M1 for all efficient & comfort but have M2 for sport-sport-sport because I am still running in my M4 with 370 miles on her so I can't give her the beans yet. But thanks for the reply

This is one of those nit-picks discussed in another thread. As said, there's no way to change this.

Pray for an update that at least remembers the settings before the car was shut down.

The default settings can't be changed. Every M3/4 starts in efficient/sport/sport. Maybe coding can change this, but I haven't seen anyone doing it yet.

How to set default M Drive profile

I have F80 YMB. I love the car.

Everytime I start it up, M drive settings default to efficiency/sport suspension/sport steering/drive logic 1. I want it to automatically be set to efficiency/comfort suspension/sport steering/DL 2.

IDrive has no M profile setting. It only has M1 and M2 setting. I have made M1 as my preference but on start up, it goes back to "factory set default." I have tried to set memory profile with my preferred setting but it does not hold them on startup.

Any advice?

Cheers.

It can't be adjusted. You have to use the M1 or M2 button on startup if you want to do anything different.

I think the only way to change the default settings is by coding but I could be wrong about that.

Love to know how to change this as well, seems strange as you could program this in the e92.

M Drive Settings (on start-up)

In my E90 M3, you could set the suspension and throttle (power) settings such that when you first start your car, they are set to your desired setting. Then, when you hit the MDrive button, it would modify them.

On the M4, I read that the throttle will always default to "Efficiency" on start up. However, I can't figure out how to set the steering and suspension to a custom setting on start-up w/out using one of the MDrive buttons. It always defaults to Efficiency for throttle, sport for suspension, and sport for steering.

I guess I can always program the MDrive 1 button for street and MDrive 2 button for track...the manual seems to indicate this is the case.

You guys figure out anything else?
Thanks!
