In a hypothetical world where they are the same cost as iron, they have additional issues:

-much larger so they force larger wheels
-hard to see what their life is. No heat checking like regular rotors which is a good guide to rotor health
-fragile, which is at odds with multiple wheel changes done when tracking

The advantage they have, weight, is versus regular brakes. How much lighter are they than a full AP or PFC BBK? And if they are still lighter only considering brakes, what about when you include 19 vs 18" wheels which should be part of the question

Either AP or BBK kit provides what should be commonly referred to as 'infinite' braking performance, so the CCBs provide absolutely zero advantage in terms of feel or modulation or performance or consistency
You bring very valid points. I have actually argued the same myself on many occasions .

I was only comparing OEM options though, not considering aftermarket BBK since I want to keep my cars as stock as possible for warranty purposes.

Hi, I have seen elsewhere on forums that f10 m5 steel rotors work with F80 ccb calipers

No personal experience, just researching because I had wanted to upgrade brakes at one point

The fronts do fit but require 2 2.5mm spacers on the front calipers and you have to drill out the center bore area if I remember correctly

Exactly what I did to my M2 Competition back in December. Ordered all the parts (calipers and Discs) direct from BMW and run Ferrodo DS2500 pads front and rear with uprated lines and SRF fluid.

How many track days did your ccb discs last? Multiple sets of pads?

Thanks

They lasted a while, multiple sets of pads replaced around 50% of wear. But I've used and still have multiple PFC BBKs and the iron rotors on those lasted longer

Working on adapting the Z54 PFC caliper to the F8X front suspension as we speak!

Thanks. Do you have any pics of the ccb's in fully worn state? Wondering when you pulled the plug. By indicator, weight, or both?

They're still on the car and being used but the indicators do not look happy. I can PM a pic when I see the car next

Awesome - good luck getting the Z54 to fit properly on the F8x

It sure would be nice if PFC did the legwork and then develop a Z54/Z45 F/R kit for the F8x I’m glad I decided not to wait when PFC said it would be “about a year” when I asked them more than 1.5 years ago. However, even though I’m a huge PFC fan, I’m extremely happy with the performance of the Essex/AP 9668/9449 kit I ended up going with.

Hehe I'll send you pics when I have it set up!

I'm sure the big AP kit is very comparable, but as I'll still use the E90 having the same pads and rotors on both cars is a huge, huge plus. The more variables we minimize the better!

The latest PFC guy was like 'dammit people are already done it, you just need a couple shims!' so I'll remove the Z54 from my E92 and see what happens. A bracket manufacturer is willing to do it so hopefully this will work!

I’d like to see these as well, if you don’t mind.

The car I’m considering buying for my track day car has CCBs and I’d like to know what worn discs look like.

I'm currently completing the first weekend with the PFC kit on the M3 CS!

Awesome! So you had custom mounting brackets machined? Are you running the F Z54 and R Z45 kits?

At first I was disappointed PFC wasn’t offering a kit for the F8x. However, after using the Essex/AP 9668/9449 kits for ~1.5 years, I have no complaints and have had no issues.

We designed them, tested using 3d printed parts and finally had them fabricated

We didn't do the rear kit (yet)

My God the CS is a weapon of mass destruction. It is ridiculously fast.

Nice! How many design iterations before you had the brackets fab’d?

No doubt. The CS is definitely not for show. Which track? How are the times compared to your e9x M3s? Have you had to adjust your driving style compared to how you drive the e9x?

The bmw service can do a conversion to CCB steel, but you will have to pay a tidy sum. I paid about 15k. Better to find a craftsman who will do half the price, of course I can give contacts, but you will need to negotiate with him. After redoing will need to watch the rotors, as a small child, so they do not start to rust. Because if they start to rust, it will require a complete disassembly, and it will take a long time. You can see how to clean metal here https://trimthatweed.com/how-to-clean-wrought-iron/ . And for the future, look out for aluminum rotors, they don't rust and are lighter.

If you don't wanna go for a proper BBK, instead of using the drilled M2C rotors, why not use these?

https://www.girodisc.com/Front-Rotor...M4_p_6907.html

at least for much better heat dissipation compared to OEM.
