Do I have VRSF Down pipe? MHD related.

Hello!

I recently picked up an one owner M4 recently. I flashed the M4 with MHD GTS engine and transmission over the weekend. When I was flashing, I noticed that the flash count was already 1 before I flashed it. And the option for downpipe was selected as "VRSF Downpipe", not OEM. Since I do not know if VRSF Downpipe is in there already, I changed it to "OEM" and flashed it.

But that got me wondered. I found out previous owner put in BAVSOUND speakers to replace stock HIFI speakers (need to return or sell Alpha one speakers I ordered...uggg...). If he/she put upgraded speakers, it is possible that he put VRSF downpipe as well. Is there an easy way to tell if it has it or not?

Thank you!

Heya,

Take a look at the downpipes. It should be pretty obvious if you have downpipes vs stock. Stocl are massive and have huge cats in them. Aftermarket tend to be round and not so boxy as trthey tend to be catless.

Are you familiar with the S55 layout and where the downpipes are?

Good morning!

I can't say I am familiar with S55 yet. I am a DIY person to a certain degree, but not at mechanic level, I guess? I was hoping I could tell if I have aftermarket downpipe without having to jack up the car (I just did over the weekend for oil change...).

The oem downpipes have nice shiny foil material on the exterior. Like Spidy mentioned they have a rectangle/square cat closest to the turbo. You should be able to tell from the top as well.

There are also BMW marking on the cats that are visible from the top when you look down!

Haha!
I looked that images of S55 and thought I should be able to spot a big rectangular looking cat from engine bay, looking down. Can’t make out anything there! Perhaps I can take some pictures pointing the camera from underneath without having to jack it up and that may help.

Yo!

Did you take off the Engine cover? The "M Power" one? If not maube try that.

Also, if you move directly inbound from the shock tower, then look directly down you should see some foil like heat protection up against the engine bay wall. Right next to that will be one of the rectangular looking cats. Right below where the charge pipes connect to the outlet of the turbos. A good flashlight and you should be able to see it it easily.

And FWIW, you do NOT have to crawl under if you dont want to. They are visible from the top.

Good luck!

Thank you all for responses. I ended up making bunch of movies using iphone, pointing upwards from the bottom, and saw big square looking cat, no VRSF DP. Ha!

Since then, fresh oil change, replaced BAVSOUND speakers with Alpha One speakers, replaced center console with LCI OEM one with ambient lighting, added CF rear diffuser, Arm Motorsport black exhaust tips. Waiting on front windshield cowl to replace the worn out one as well as cabin air filter.

Very tempted to go MHD Stage 1 but for now GTS tune drives well, GTS transmission tune shifter crispier but jerkier in low speed than stock.
