Strut Nut Socket - East Bay
Does anyone have or know of a place (in the Bay Area) to buy/borrow an 18mm strut nut socket like the one below?

I have 18mm used for two installs, 19mm (new), 21mm (new), 22mm (new), and 24mm (new).
I can sell each one of them for the cost of retail replacement. Located in the East Bay. PM me if you're interested. |

The Schwaben socket is the best for applying final torque to the front top nut since a torque wrench can plug directly into it, but I find for threading the nut on/off it's faster to use a pass-through like the Harbor Freight set. I don't use the ratchet in that set though and use my 3/4" ratcheting wrench on the sockets instead. If you do use the HF pass-through socket to do final torque, you'll need to put a 3/4" (or 19mm) crows foot on your torque wrench.

^ That would be nice if everyone were honest/trustworthy. I've been burned one too many times by local owners before. One was major, and completely unexpected, while the other is ongoing, and somewhat expected, so you never really know who you can trust these days.
BTW, you'll need the strut nut socket to properly torque the front strut bolts, but only if proper torque values matter to the installer. |

I’m pretty ocd with tools and tool lending in general. Even my next door neighbors know that abt me.
In general, a small deposit via venmo or PP tends to help keep things above board. Generally |

Since ur, in Sj head out to Harbor Freight and buy these.
You will have to grind/file the 18mm wrench to fit perfectly, but it will work. https://www.harborfreight.com/8-piec...set-32042.html 10mm on the top shaft. GL |

I installed my Ohlins with something similar to this. It's $5 shipped to you the next day, if you have Prime.
I used an Allen socket to hold the strut shaft, then used the wrench to tighten. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GN8V3D3..._3KucFb9Q92PH1 Edit: This was on my E92. I'm on mobile and didn't realize this is the F8x section. |

Sorry to bump up an old thread. I'm trying to do some suspension work this weekend and I'm seeing if anyone in the east bay have an extra 18MM open strut socket for sale? Ordering online will put it past my weekend window. Thanks!

Just a heads up, this Crescent passthrough set (*my affiliated link) on Amazon has an 18mm that will work for both front and rear damper top mount nuts. You'll need a deep 10mm socket <14mm OD to counterhold with it (I use a 1/4" drive one I have).
Alternatively, you can go to your local AutoZone and get the Duralast version of the same set.
