Cost to replace one turbo

Hi, so I need to replace my back turbo on the s55, how much is the labor to do so? I had one shop quote me 14 hours, but I’ve seen many people say that it was like $700-$900 to have a place install upgraded twins. Thanks.

A single turbo is $940. You’ll need new gaskets, etc (see 2nd link below for part numbers)

A complete replacement kit is $2530

I asked my brother-in-law who’s a senior BMW tech to estimate the hours BMW would charge and his guess is 10-15 hours. He’s going to look it up tomorrow.

Damn - $4380 CAD PER turbo? You can now get 2x turbos + complete installation kits w/ new lines for $1k CAD less than the cost of just a single turbo from a year ago. Again, damn!

Can dealer pricing is a rip off. I order everything through bimmerworld or turner/ecs and pricing is way better. Even dealer to dealer pricing varies a lot here. Only thing the dealer is good for is nuts, bolts and gaskets when you are in a pinch.

I also have recent take off turbos. The rear exhaust housing is messed from blowing the exhaust wheel off but if you want it for the front half it's yours for shipping costs travismelo3 .

Do you get hit with additional taxes/import fees when you order thru BW?

I can tell you going single turbo is 10x more expensive than just replacing the turbo for $1000...

I was going to go through them as well. Mine was an insurance claim. Ran over a rock on the highway, did a pile of damage. Sadly, instead of getting a dealer quote and having ICBC cut me a cheque to do my own sourcing, they took over a month to get back to me to discuss. By then, the dealer had everything ordered, and claimed a 35% restocking charge that ICBC wasn't willing to eat. Bummer for me, I could have saved over $10k for just the parts I needed...
