So my 2016 F80 with 32,00 miles went in to the dealer for a knocking sound. They first misdiagnosed my exhaust scraped the ground and had me file a claim with my insurance to have the exhaust fixed. When i picked it up last friday the same noise was there...... Today i got a call from my dealers saying they found metal shavings in the filter and they are voiding my warranty due to my Dinan tune. Has anyone had this kind of issue and any advice would be great, I called Dinan and was told to take it to a Authorized Dinan dealer.
"May 31 2019 update" Today i got a call from Dinan confirming that any damage that was done to my car will be covered. This whole problem with my car for the last 2 months starting with being misdiagnosed at South Bay BMW and having my car there over a month was a nightmare. But pacific BMW along with Dinan were able to fix my issue in fast and smooth manner. Yes i was worried for a week if Dinan was going to cover and i think anyone would be, but they did. Dinans warranty is as solid as stone, BMW rejected Dinan came in to save the day!! I truly am grateful to everyone for your post's comments and suggestions and even more grateful to Dinan for being the company i always trusted them to be. "September 11 2019 update" It took a little longer then expected but my car is finished with a fully built engine by Steve Dinan's team at Carbahn in mountain view. I was given the option of 3 engines to chose from one being brand new factory or two Carbahn motorworks engines. I went with Carbahn even though knowing it would be a longer process but I'm happy I did. Autohaus of Frankfort pulled and installed my new engine and also offered to install any upgrades at no cost. I upgraded my charge pipes and top mount intake and they did an amazing job. I have a 1200 mile brake in then I'll be bringing her back in for an oil change and to have my new DINAN flashtune installed, an upgrade that was free of charge. All in all it was a long processes but in the end I came out with a better car then before. I'm very thankful to DINAN, APR, Autohaus of Frankfort, Carbahn, Seth , Justin and David for all the communication and the efforts they put out to get me back In my car as soon as possible at no charge, and also all the upgrade along the way. I feel very special to have had all the work done to my car, it's truly a one of a kind now.

Well, yeah, a tune is going to void your BMW warranty. I mean, it's a bit more complicated than that, but the end result is doing exactly what they said, take it to an authorized Dinan dealer. The one good thing about Dinan is the warranty.

You should not be going after the BMW warranty, they will not fix it for free.
You should going to an authorized Dinan dealer, have them check the car and get Dinan to fix it under their own warranty. Dinan is not covered by BMW, Dinan offers their own warranty if anything goes wrong

The extra money you paid for your Dinan tune is for their parallel warranty - do what Dinan says and take it to one of their authorized dealers in your area. They'll assess the damage and get it repaired with Dinan footing the bill if it's proven that the tune itself caused whatever failure it turns out to be. Sounds like it could be a rod bearing or bearings.

Well, yeah, that's why I said 'the one', because there is no number two on the list of good things about Dinan.

Best of luck, and please keep this thread updated with what happens. There have always been questions about just how reliable the Dinan warranty is, so whatever happens here could be a big help to anyone considering Dinan parts/tune.

Please do update us on this. I have had Dinan software on two previous BMWs, and I loved both. I planned to go for it on the M4 as well, but I'm hesitant given the crank hub issues. The resolution here may help me decide whether or not to move forward.

Hello everyone, I got my first update from Pacific BMW. Unfortunately i did not get an update from them on friday but I texted him today requesting an update and its as followed
" just working with dinan to get the motor changed out, i started a claim with them on friday im just waiting for them to respond.". So far we are good but we will see what Diana has to say about the motor being replaced. I did have an issue with my intercooler leaking due to a faulty washer that was covered when i first got it installed so my fingers are crossed and i will keep posting with each update.

Ouch! New engine, I would suspect they will scrutinize this a bit more heavily, based on the cost of a new engine, plus install.
Best of luck!

Here in defines the problem -
If Dinan says it was not tune related and BMW says it is. The OP is basically screwed. I'm my opinion these third party warranties still carry a great deal of risk. |

Just to chime in since I will not be around for a few days after today...
We are working with the dealership and looking into the failure. BMW did there thing on Tuesday and we have requested some additional information as a result of that inspection to properly address the legal side. Obviously, its a big claim so due diligence is par for the course. |
