Nothing against them, as I have no beef in this game, but considering their drop of reputation over the past decade and a half, and seeing Steve Dinan leave, and numerous dealers dropping them as well, it sure as hell was a bad sign.

Then you read threads like this, and I'm just wondering how on earth would ANYONE in their right mind ever consider paying for Dinan mods

I know the vast majority of the BMW crowd here in south florida, which we get together all the time for meets etc, pretty much NOT ONE person is currently on the Dinan platform in the f8X side.

I have some of their suspension stuff on my car and it feels/works great. But, I do agree unless you want a warranty there really is no reason to go with a Dinan tune anymore. With Carbahn out with a warrantable flash tune for a lot less with more power there is even less reason.

That said, I’d probably consider going CarBahn over DINAN at this point.
Right, mainly convenience, which is why I went with their suspension parts. The BMW dealer that did my MP HAS kit is also a Dinan dealer. Had they not been I would've went with somebody else's parts.

Agreed most likely about funding etc. But, Carbahn is an actual Steve Dinan tune unlike whatever Dinan is putting out. Plus the obvious differences of a flash tune and installing Dinans tune box etc under the hood. All I'm saying is that all Dinan really offers is convenience and warranty. The convenience part is being eroded by dealers dropping them and their very high price to performance ratio (which is why I brought up Carbahn). And warranty stories like this don't make people feel comfortable about spending that type of money. Even if/when OP is taken care of, I'm fairly certain the back and forth/plus the treatment by the BMW dealer will put some off from doing it/dealing with the hassle.

In short Dinan really needs to up their game.

Carbahn is Steve DINAN's new company my man.

Also Dinan is/was way more expensive than any other option due to their warranty coverage but I don't know enough of how many people actually had success with it.

Got an update from the dealer this morning that DINAN has requested a detailed quote for the repairs. It was sent over around noon and now I'm waiting for approval. Pacific BMW has been very helpful and has sent over all the requested information quickly and DINAN is in its final warranty approval, it's a motor and going to take a bit longer then expected but I'm sure they are not going to hang me out to dry on this.

It shouldn't be a question about whether DINAN will cover it if nothing besides BMW and DINAN components are on the vehicle.
Agree with everything you said but you can't blame Dinan for doing their due diligence in such a large and sort of ambiguous claim, especially when dealing with enthusiast and their sometimes sneaky modifications.

If a company doesn't protect themselves from frivolously losses, they would eventually sink and cease to exist.

A Dinan tune is still a risk but I trust them 100% over the competition; who at this point, would of blocked your number from contacting them anymore.

Pretty good news! Congrats.

So what happened exactly and what's the solution?

New engine and keeping the tune not know if it may happen again? Was the damage tune related?

Thanks

Obviously Dinan products aren't approved by BMW, so why didn't the BMW dealer who's a Dinan agent remove the Dinan stuff off the car before BMW got involved?

One of our dealers sells and fits Akrapovic exhaust systems, but if an engine issue arises requiring BMW's involvement, they re-fit the stock exhaust before BMW inspect the car or they advise the customer to do so and return the car unmodified.

Dealers are paid by BMW to do warranty work, they don't get paid to advise BMW that a car's been modified and to void the warranty.

How often have you changed your engine oil? Just trying to figure out what caused those shavings to appear and the knock sound.

Sounds oil related to me. Maybe followed the BMW recommendated maintenance (which is way to long IMO) burned engine oil and did not top off and ran oil low for a bit?

Garage List
2019 X6M  [0.00]
To those of you saying Dinan isn't doing their job fast enough, you guys will eventually learn that some claims are processed very fast and others very slow. While others can take weeks... months... years... or even a lawyer + filed complaint to get any movement at all.

This goes for claims in all types of situations. Liability claim. Hit and run claim. Business loss claims. Homeowner's claims. Life insurance claim. The list goes on. Wait until you guys deal with your own health insurance company not wanting to pay for a hospital visit. You guys wouldn't be bitching about a 2 week old Dinan claim if you experienced the other things people have gone through. Just saying...

Best update for a Friday. DINAN called me just a bit ago to give me the great news that they will be covering my car. First I would like to thank everyone on the forums for your advice suggestions and opinions.

I have to say DINAN has come threw to show that there warranty is 100% legit and they cover your car if BMW rejects you, just as advertised, this is the reason I chose DINAN and their long history with BMW.

I will keep everyone updated once my car is back on the road, spotting that DINAN badge with pride. Thank you again for everything.
