Well, the time has finally come, as the lease on M3 is up at the end of March. I love the car to death, but I'm also anxious to try something new. I'd like to stay in the same general price range and also something with four doors, which has led me to the following:
Alfa Giulia Quad - my local dealers are offering 10k+ discounts on these and while I know reliability is a concern, there's no doubt that it is an outstanding performer BMW M2 Comp - Late add to the mix. Love the car but given where I'm coming from, I just don't know if that will be enough of a needle mover. Losing the CF roof and two doors would be tough, but maybe it really is that good?! Tesla Model 3 Performance - I know...I know, it is electric, but I test drove one about 3 months ago and man, can this thing move. Handling also was WAY better than I expected. ***************************** Any thoughts on what you guys would choose out of the above / anything I might be forgetting? Again, I'd prefer to stay in the same price range as my M3, so while a 911 would be great, it just isn't an option unfortunately. Thanks in advance gents! |

For starters, remove the X2 M35i with unbridled prejudice immediately, and add the X3 M, X4 M, GLC63, GLC63 Coupe, and Stelvio Q. Also add the RS5 Sportback and C63 Sedan. These have all been discussed at length here or other places on Bimmerpost. The SUVs have been covered more in the X3/X4 M forum. Incidentally, those two are not yet on the market, but will be revealed next month in Geneva (or sooner). |

Model 3 Performance. If this will be your daily, makes the most sense to me. Haven't met a former M or AMG guy that has made the switch and regretted it (not to be read as everyone who switches is happy). Take a look through the Tesla Motor Club forums. You'll find a lot of former M and AMG guys there. They can give good feedback.
Definitely no the X2. If you really need an ICE, then Quad.

Of your choices, I'd go with either the Alfa or the Tesla with a slight lean towards the Tesla.
You also might want to consider the RS3 and if you can squeeze in a 2 door, the M2 comp (which would prob be the least jarring transition).

if you have tasted pure m for a few years, there's no way you can go m-lite/m-performance/m-bukake whatever it's called with the x2

Yeah I have been back and forth on the M2. I could squeeze in to 2 doors if I have to, but it just seems like a lateral move in a way.
I thought about this too, but I know I would be looking to jump right back out again once the G80 is out. |

I had the same dilemma. Lease just ended and searched for a replacement. Options were M2 Comp, i8, M5, R8 RWB, Alpha Guilia Quad, C63S, Cayman S, etc. in the end I still couldn't find another car that checked as many boxes as my old F80 does. So I decided to stick with it for one more round! Ended up with an M3 CS. It was different enough to feel like I wasn't in the same car and the deals were amazing.

Do you have your own garage with L2 charger? If you don’t, depending on where you live, you might be in for a surprise when you try to use the Tesla superchargers (eg always full, you need to wait). If I didn’t have an L2, I’d be less pleased with my model 3 performance ownership.

The M2 is more of a step back than the M2 Comp performance wise. I'd definitely go with the Comp. The interior isn't as nice as an M3/4, but that's not why we get these cars right?!

They take out all that and you still don't even get a big weight saving over the F8x.

You don’t get ANY weight savings. In fact, the M2 Competition is ~150 lbs heavier than a base M2 (nearly 3700 lbs) and is barely faster in a straight line.
