F80 (2016) 6MT Clutch issues
I picked up my f80 2016 at 35 miles and it nows has about 550 miles. Since about 200 mile point, I noticed the 'grinding feeling' during the pressing of the clutch. (I do not make the shift unless the clutch is fully pressed, so there is no way that I actually made mistakes in shifting)
The 'grinding feeling' makes no noise whatsoever, it is just the feels I get from my left foot. It usually happens in lower gears (1st, 2nd, and 3rd). But today I noticed that it also does that when the car is at rest with the engine running. I was going to bring it to the dealer, but since it happens intermittently I decided to wait a bit until my break-in service. Anyone here had the same issue with their 6MT? If you have other issues with your 6MT, what are they? Thanks guys! |

Sounds like my issue here. Maybe it is normal like they said:

However, there's one thing that caught my attention. My car also does this when the car is fully warmed up. This is weird as my previous car (Audi S5 manual V8) also behaved similar. With Audi S5, I went through the process of replacing the whole transmission, flywheels and stuff, but the issue reappeared again. FYI, no car makers just go ahead replace your transmission. They go through transmission fluid check to see the metal amounts. If the number appears abnormal then they have to report it to the headquarter and wait for the approval of the parts. As you know replacing transmission is a huge job and costs so much money. The whole process took about 2 weeks, and it happened after I had my S5 for about 5-6 months (at less than 1000 miles). It's frustrating because I'm experiencing the very same thing all over again with my new 2016 M3. |

When I release the clutch after shifting into neutral for stop, often I get grinding feeling on my left foot as well as hear some sound. Beginning to notice it after 9500 miles.

I have exactly same issue since I picked it up and now I have about 400 miles (only have the car a week). Did you find anything from the dealer? I also have a notchy 3rd gear but I'm hoping after the breakin and tranny flush that goes away.

So you've got to ask yourself what can cause a grinding - which is really an uneven friction - during clutch pedal movement, and without creating an audible sound and without driveability impact. Here are your options:
1. A bad clutch pedal spring or install 2. An improperly installed or aligned or bent clutch fork (extremely unlikely) 3. A bad throwout bearing - almost always causes noise 4. An uneven flywheel or clutch surface - could happen in a way that creates no noise or driveability issues but creates a light grinding when mating during clutch engagement. I think that's it. Most likely it's simply a problem with the clutch pedal/spring itself given the lack of noise. |

I received the break-in service at 1100 miles, and the clutch doesn't give me that grinding feeling so much. It still happens but it's apparently less than it was used to.
I have other issues such as tin can noise from beneath the car and shifting is so rigid. So I'll have them take a look this weekend. |

Hi, new here. Recently joined the ranks of BMW ownership and have already found his forum to be a wealth of information. Helped me with a number of questions already just by searching. I hope to contribute myself once I get more familiar with my car.
Realize this is an old thread but after a fair amount of searching it's the closest I can find to my question. I just picked up a CPO 2016 M4 with 14k miles. Drives beautifully. However, i notice a slight "grittiness" to the clutch pedal when depressing it. My past MT cars (NIssan, Subaru, Volvo, Mazda) all had smooth clutch pedal feels (my Xterra is 108k miles now and clutch feel is still like silk). The OP describes his issue as a "grinding" feel. This is not the adjective I'd use to describe my issue. For those of you that are mountain bikers, feels like an old dirty shifter cable, hence my use of "gritty" to describe it. The M otherwise behaves wonderfully. No problem shifting, no odd transmission noises or difficulty putting the power down. I can certainly live with the clutch feel, but wanted to know from other M4 owners if they have noticed the same thing. Thanks in advance! |
