Used Lease at non-BMW dealer (via Auction)?
Hey folks, I'm looking at a used F80. It's a single owner car, coming off a 2 year 9 month lease, with about 25k miles.
The car is at a-non BMW dealer (without getting too specific, it is at another "mainstream" German car dealer). According to the CarFax, it was picked up via Auto Auction. Otherwise, it has no obvious issues reported. I haven't reached out to the dealer yet, but I'm considering making an offer. Is there any reason to be concerned with the car going through auction to a non-BMW dealer? I've read some articles suggesting that it is typical for cars at end of lease to go through auction, so it could end up at any type of dealer. It feels like a bit of a red flag, but maybe this is much more common than I would assume? For anyone with experience, are there any questions you'd recommend? I assume it wouldn't be odd for a buyer to ask for more background on how they obtained the car. |

Feel free to PM me a link of the car & I can share my thoughts with you if it helps. I already have an M4, so you know I won't compete

My dealer told me they are required to take stock of a certain number of lease returns. The others they can decide on based on their market and get a discount off residual from bmw fs if they throw it in their lot for sale. Perhaps the dealer didn't think there was a market for that car or it was modified or has been in a collision- even if it was minor. Does the car fax check out? Maybe go around with a paint gauge if you want help in determining if it was in an accident and fixed in the DL.

Nothing is wrong about the car being bought at the auction. All types of cars are bought and sold there. You need to do an inspection before buying the car.

My 2015 M4 was bought at a upscale non BMW dealer, lease return with 3 months of warranty.
Great car and Zero issues over time.

This practice is extremely common. A wholesale license grants you permission to Aoff lease BMW vehicles directly from BMW Financial. Every car has a condition report available to the buyer. 60% of all lease return have an accident reported. Do your homework.
