Maybe sarcasm but I'll bite
He has been driving/racing around for >25 years now afaik, so a 'top instructor' won't sell anything to him he already knows about. Probably the other way around lol.

Has anyone actually gone out and watched the movie? I went and saw it this morning. The whole chase scene with the F80 was overlaid with S65 engine noises

At no point did I hear the S55 at all. Still looked super nice in SSII though

Saw the movie last night. It was actually very very good!

M3 got thrashed... but definitely got some quality screen time along with the new 7 series and a 6 series vert.

You're not the only one who noticed.
My and my friend also observed the same thing watching it at two different theatres.
At first i thought just MAYBE my ears were playing a trick on me, but at no point did i hear S55 and then i realized they replaced the sounds.

But yes, those were most certainly S65 noises, particularly the induction noises coming from the front.

Plot was good though, especially the opera scene and at least the physical driving during the chase was real.

Yup. My buddy and I both started laughing. As soon as they started the F80 during the chase scene, I was like yup, that's a V8. I really liked the bike chase scene too.

Pretty typical/predictable action movie, but entertaining anyway

Yea i couldn't help but laugh about it with my friend when discussing it afterwards.
What i also found funny was the choice of Mercedes Benz (with the 3 pointed star removed) and Range Rover for the antagonist's cars.
Almost as if to subtly plant the image into the mainstream audience that BMW is the victorious marque

All in all a good entertaining movie. I found the humor to my liking as well.

I went to see it, my fist MI movie ever and I really enjoyed the whole thing! Glad I went.

You're not the only one who noticed the sounds. It was indeed an S65... I had to laugh. Why would they do that?

Interesting that they'd dub in V8 sounds, but go through the trouble of sourcing an S65 powered car. I mean, I get the whole V8 thing, obviously. I love the power the S55 delivers, but the exhaust note is just loud and buzzy. I wouldn't say it sounds bad, but it doesn't sing like the S65.

There were a couple of actual videos of the movie being made and it definitely was an S55. But the end result was them pipping a V8 sound at the theaters

Yeah, no doubt it was an S55 in the engine bay. In the epic photo thread, there were lots of photos of what were clearly S55 engines.

I guess what I was getting at is that most of the time Hollywood has a tendency to source generic engine sounds. It wouldn't surprise me to hear they dubbed over a small block Chevy engine sound lol. I'm surprised (but don't doubt) they would go through the trouble of sourcing BMW engine sounds, but go with the S65.

It was unmistakable. It was definitely the induction sound from the S65. The exhaust, I'm not sure. It was a blend of generic V8 (maybe S62? Haha) and maybe even S85 at some point. But not one hint of the S55's raspy and farty exhaust

Considering this movie was essentially a 2 hour long BMW commercial, I'm not surprised they went through the trouble. They had everything from the X5 hybrid, 6er vert, new 7er, S1000R and of course the F80 in the movie.

Anyone know if Tom Cruise did all the riding himself too?

Which is why I went to the cinema.

I was even thinking it sounded like an M Performance exhaust. There was one scene (at the gate in Morocco) where they left the original S55 sound. They had to dub the sounds because SCOTT26 said that they used xDrive F30's for some stunt scenes, but again, why S65 and not S55.

Yes, a long commercial it was lol and good for it. It was a product mis-placement nightmare for Mercedes and JLR, lol. The funniest bits were the street-clumsy Defender and the Merc with the three-pointed star removed. It's a small triumph over my Merc friends who are merciless at critiquing the brand for each time my 135i has been in the shop - hpfp, injectors, water pump - to point of one set teaching their 18 month old to taunt me (yea, that bad) but I still love BMW!

Interesting that BMW has no word on what sound is being presented... Or maybe they felt fine with another sound, they probably feared the controversy on whether the S55 sounds or

I just saw the movie. I guess I'm the only one that thought the F80 chase scene was bleh. I know you're supposed to suspend your disbelief, but come on... the way it ended was unnecessary and ridiculous. They didn't have to back up at full speed just to escape one last motorcycle baddy (they didn't even escape the motorcycle baddy). If they just slammed the brakes instead of taking the evel knievel ramp, the motorcyclist woulda been dispatched and Tom Cruise wouldn't be in a car that flies a hundred feet backwards and does 10 flips after it lands. But then again, if you can physically hop on a motorcycle after that wreck and continue on a badass motorcycle chase, then why not.

I know. I'm fun at parties.

Few yrs late, but I just watched it on Netflix. I came because I heard the S65, figured someone else must have heard it too! Lol!

Also, not sure if anyone else saw it, but after the backflips and before ethe motorcycle scene, there's a pre-lci e90 m3 in the parking lot. Jerez, from the rear passenger 3/4, in the background.

I'm a big fan of the MI movies, they mostly use Bimmers, maybe bmw donates the cars for free advertising or something. Theres a pretty cool classic e28 in MI: Fallout
