How to get rid of water spotting on windshield.

Hey guys, I need some help removing some water spots from my windshield. Its driving me nuts when it rains I see the water spots when my wipers swipe. I wish I never parked it outside that one day. When the windshield is dry I do not see it. Only when the windshield is wet.

Let me know if you guys have any products you recommend.

Have you tried a vinegar/distilled water soaked paper towel (1:1 ratio), letting it sit on the spot for 15 minutes or so, then rubbing away? This worked on my older cars that had spots all over the windows. These were visible spots, however.

I’ve heard Bon Ami is very effective. Need to try it on my X5 some day - most of its life has been outdoors, so it has glass and paint issues (wouldn’t use Bon Ami on paint).

Having clean car (and house) windows is something I really appreciate. I, too, encountered this water spot problem on my car windows. To remedy the condition I used my Porter Cable buffer with a light cutting foam pad and McKee’s 37 High Performance Glass Restorer. The buffing method and the McKee’s product produced a fantastic result. The glass was super clean and smooth. For good measure I finished with AutoGlym’s window polish. When sitting in the car and looking out - one could hardly tell there was actually a window in front of them. No water marks, pitting, streaks, etc. Truly crystal clear results.

I use isopropyl alcohol to clean class. Might take a clay bar on the heaviest areas.

I am using this on shower glass and would use it on auto glass if necessary:

It is working better than anything else I’ve tried (short of glass polish). It is a paste with a mild abrasive that you put on manually (scrub) and rinse away. When spots are completely removed, I’m going to put on this company's shower Protect product:

If I like it on the shower, I may use their products on house external glass and auto glass.

Magic eraser works a charm on glass spots and it's my secret weapon to revitalize the windshield interior

Glass polish is an overkill for water spots. It is meant to actually polish the glass itself to remove fine scratches from it; much like a pumice does by hand. All you want to do is remove what's sitting on top of the glass. Any decent paint polish would do. I have used finishing polish with either a fine- or medium-density foam pad with perfect results. It is no different than removing hard water spots from clearcoat.

I've had this polish for a while and intended to use it on my prior M but never got around to using it. After reading this post and was inspired to give it a go on my 2mo old replacement that had developed some really stubborn spots. The result was fantastic. The glass looked better than the day I picked it up. It makes sense that this might be overkill as the polish feels quite abrasive, but with a light foam pad and several passes the glass was perfect.
