Hey guys, just a heads up. Last night I traded-in my F80 at CarMax for a 718 Boxster S. I won't drag you through the details here b/c it's all in the last post of my build thread below.

Anyway, this F80 is gorgeous and perfect, and I totally intended to sell it to one of you, but their offer was too good to pass up. It will be popping up on CarMax's website very soon, so if you're in the market for an incredibly clean, tastefully modded, and perfectly maintained F80, you should seriously consider it. It's still got the BM3 tune and I have all the records that I'd be happy to share if you buy it.

For the record, I'm not a sales rep or mole or shareholder of CarMax or anything sketchy like that. I'd honestly just love for one of you guys to get it rather than some random douche bag who's gonna abuse it, not appreciate it, total it, or fuck it up some way. I'll keep my eye on CarMax's website and will post the link for the car once I see it.

I don't see it yet, there are basically no M3s or M4s for sale nationwide with Carmax right now. The supply of used cars is at a record low right now, if anyone is interested I'd call them!

Yep, the CarMax in Indianapolis (technically it's in Carmel which is a suburb of Indy). The salesman (his name is James) said they have auctions every Monday for cars they can't sell on the lot (>10yo, >100k miles, etc), but he said he was sure this one would definitely end up on the lot and probably be parked on the front row facing the street

I recently test drove a '15 M4 6MT finished in Tanzanite/Silverstone with 42k miles from my local CarMax dealership. I even had it shipped from another CarMax location! It was the perfect example... except it had an accident in its history report with no supporting docs, paintwork and an interior in horrendous condition, and CarMax wanted $48k for it. After the test drive, the sales rep wanted to have no conversation about my concerns and basically kicked me out the door. It was a very uninspiring and frustrating experience, and quite frankly CarMax has no business selling these cars like they do the hundreds of thousands of Toyota Corollas or whatever else rolls onto their lots. So I hope you had a good experience as a seller, OP, but as a buyer I never want to purchase a car like this from them.

What did you get for a trade? I’m thinking this is a $60k car.

$49k. I was initially thinking 60 also, but I looked at recent sales here on the forum and saw many going for mid 50s which was disappointing. So then I figured I’d list it in the high 50s and eventually sell for mid 50s.

Once you figure the 7% sales tax savings on the Boxster, the actual value of their trade for me was $52,430. That was only a couple grand away from the mid 50s that I figured I’d get out of it and it saved me the hassle of selling it.

I’m retrospect, I should’ve gotten them to appraise it sooner (rather than last minute as I was signing the paperwork on the Boxster), then come back to the forum and listed it for $55k and sold it to one of you guys quickly. That would’ve been a win-win for everyone (except CarMax) but oh well… 🤷🏼‍♂️
