[QUOTE=AustinGelbM4;20994279]This happened to me today. Got trunk open warning when I came to a stop. Checked rear view mirror and sure enough trunk was wide open. Got out and closed it. It was a bit embarrassing but WTH. I do have after market diffuser but its not carbon fiber so Im definitely thinking its the key fob in the pocket issue. Not sure how software update would fix this.[/QUOTE

They should do a recall of the fob and replace them with ones that don't have such sensitive trunk buttons.

This happened twice to me now with my 428. So i switched to the other key fob. Could it be the battery going dead causing it to malfunction?

After market diffuser I have is simple gloss black plastic one. Not carbon fiber. I don't think its the problem.

Doubt problem is key fob battery going dead. Car is new and I tested the key fob tonight. I could arm and disarm the car from about 300ft or more away. I think its just very easy for button to be accidentally pressed while its in a pocket.

Just happened to me for the first time. I have a 17 with the executive package. Park. Raining hard. Get out and run for the restaurant. My wife luckily arrived 5 mins later and closes my trunk. Wtf. If she hadn't come this would have been a disaster considering bmw puts their electronics in the bottom of the trunk..

Have your dealer recode the remote to double clicks for trunk opening, covered under warrantee repair.

At any rate, somewhat soaked the trunk. Removed the cubby hole liner, of which the pockets were saturated with water, to find about 1/2 to 3/4 inch of water in the bottom. There are plugs for somewhat large holes, but they wouldn't easily remove to drain it. The battery, and electronics/fuse box to the front of said cubby holes were fine.

The kick feature never works when you want it do...and does when you don't.
it really seems like rain is a trigger for it. mine also happened when it was raining very hard.. thank God i park in a garage at home it rains everyday here in florida!

My trunk is possessed

Came out to the garage this morning to find my trunk open. Must have hit the fob - but weird, because my M2 had the same fob as did my 6 series and I never did that. Oh well.

Just looked outside at work and my trunk is open again.....

Went to close it and it really did not want to close - had to slam it.

Trying to figure out if I have a latch issue and/or a really sensitive fob and/or a combo. Anyone else ever have something like this?

I fixed the first problem via coding a longer hold time for the remote to release the trunk. Never had any problem after that. http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...2#post21982202

I had the opposite of your 2nd problem - replacing the ED plate with the US plate made the trunk only open half-way. There are different spring locations that you can use to adjust the tension. Very simple, like 1 minute. Here is the link, http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...1201850&page=2

Keep in mind if you purchased this car pre-owned that you can remote pop trunk and unlock from the bmw app. Some food for thought.

I have had this happen on numerous occasions. I have an RW diffuser. It'll open for no reason sometimes when I'm near the car.

I got an 18 ZCP w/MP diffuser and my trunk has done this like 5 times already in a month and half of ownership. I had the same diffuser on my previous 2015 M3 and never had a problem. No way its me mistakenly pushing the trunk button on the FOB, something not right but don't know what.

I've had a CF diffuser on for about 8 months and no issues whatsoever.

I always do the look back when walking away from the car to make sure I didn't inadvertently open the trunk. Plus I like looking at my car.

Hi , thanks for the TSB and this is what dealer did to my car yesterday, i posted in other thread and wanted to know if the dealer configured it correctly, the remote unlock button for trunk will work only if car is unlocked first as mentioned below. I thought the fix was to depress the remote button twice to open trunk which is not the case.

Connect to ISTA/P and perform the conversion:
a. After the conversion is complete, demonstrate to the customer that the two button logic is only active if the setting for the
“tailgate” is activated in the vehicle menu.
b. Inform the customer on operation of the Two Button Trunk/Tailgate unlock function. To open the trunk/tailgate perform the
following:
1. First depress door unlock button on the vehicle key.
2. Then depress the trunk unlock button on the vehicle key.

Ugh - I thought it was two presses of the trunk button - not an unlock and then trunk..

BTW, interesting that I have the exact same issues with my trunk - hard to close and keeps opening.

I'm having this problem too. In my four months of ownership, the trunk has opened itself three times. Fortunately, twice it was in my garage. But once it was in a parking lot in the rain. Anyone have a solution?

I just had the dealer code it - have not had a chance to try it - they told me it was now "unlock car - press trunk button twice".

I noticed that the remote for the M3 is lighter than my previous remote, maybe that is part of the issue. Either way, while I don't love clicking the remote a million times, I use the kick to open feature most of the time and HOPEFULLY that still works

This has happened to me several times! I think it is the key fob though.
