Wouldn't have been all that hard to simply say "Unlike the V1, the Bel/Escort detectors are 'stealth' in that they are shielded/protected from RDDs (radar detector detectors), which is especially important given how VA/DC laws treat radar detectors".

For installed units go with 9500ci or the Bell version though I think the Escort ads a feature or two and whatever you do stay away from K40, they are junk. Been using 9500ci since it came out and the SRX before that. Local shop got me to switch to a K40 on the M4 and by the time I got home from picking it up I had already called them to inform them they would be pulling it out and installing the 9500ci in its place. There is a shop in Seattle (if you need it I will find it) they made an install kit for my 911 for me using their CNC machine and everything looks so perfect and factory. Costs a bit for the kit but looks so much better then any custom install I have seen. With that said, a great shop can certainly do a very clean install without the kit, just won't look as factory or clean.
If you want a unit attached to your rearview mirror use a blend mount and a 9500xi. I would say the Passport Max but it is detectable by radar detector defectors so if you ever drive in DC or VA you are screwed, which I do about 4 times a year. I do use the Max in my Daughter and Wife's car since neither of their cars ever go up North.

Valentine 1 with a concealed display. I mount mine to the right of the rear view mirror, and place the concealed display to the left of the instrument cluster. I also get a 5" tint eyebrow on the windshield, to conceal the detector.

I run Escort Redline with band segmentation and RDR/TSR off for superior detection range and sensitivity but my common routes don't have a lot of falses or traffic radar. Otherwise I would run V1 with custom settings via YaV1 app.

I've long been a fan and user of the V1, but went with an integrated solution on my E92 (Passport 9500ci with Laser Interceptors as well).
Recently bought a V1 for use in other cars... It seems I forgot how sensitive the V1 was and frankly, it's almost TOO sensitive. Probably the superior product for highway use, but in the city it basically beeps non-stop (even in the 'L' modes) which, in my view, kind of decreases its effectiveness. The 9500's ability to remember and mark false alarms ultimately means it alerts a lot less often, which means the times it DOES alert means a lot more to me. I think the V1 was unquestionably the leader, but have not kept up with some of the advanced features that Escort is offering that make it more usable in daily life. |

Does anyone have interference issues between V1 and the Driver Assistance Plus package (DAP)? I have DAP and my V1 now beeps K band really frequently, even when I am in my garage which what not a problem if my F8x is off. DAP's "radars" seem to be on all the time even if you turn off the DAP features. when I receive my Savvy I will set its limit to 20mph so hopefully it will minimize the noise. Interestingly, when I am at speed, the DAP doesn't seem to interfere with my V1.
BTW, my V1 is 10 years old and doesn't have POP.

Someone, please post pictures of the location of the OBD. I only see the cover where it says Airbag.

It took me a long time to find it, too. It is on the very left side of the foot well, against the side of the wall.

I did a DIY a couple years ago on my F30, it should pretty much be the same on F80/82.

So while the V1 is awesome it's not enough for me. Plus they need to update the looks a bit and make it look somewhat like it's part of the digital age. It looks so damn 90's! Now the new passport MAX may be better as it's the newest and has all the features of a 9500, but I have no experience with it nor do I know anyone using it so no feedback from me there.

I created a DIY for the V1 with Savvy. Super easy... no tools! Only your fingers! Enjoy!

Are radar detectors, as is in VA, illegal where you are? If so are you concerned with the ability for law enforcement to detect you have radar active inside the vehicle? As I'm in VA I've been toying with the idea myself, there are units that are invisible to detection, but I'm still worried about getting picked up on visual.

Radar detector is legal here. I was more interested in hiding wires etc. sorry I was not specific.

V1...although it did absolutely no good two years ago when a cop in an unmarked Explorer paced me from behind and gave me a ticket for 85 in a 65. Fortunately in NC they have what's called a PJC or Prayer for Judgement, which you can read about here:

No, non, I understood your post. I just didn't know the laws down there but assumed is wasn't legal, therefore was wonder how you were getting around the law. So, we're good, my bad actually. Glad to hear you guys down there don't have the state making it tougher than they should. Be safe.
