Awesome to whoever merged my post!

Super easy! Don't bother going to the dealer for this. 10 mins tops to adjust. Just pull back the trim from under the rubber weather seal and reach in. Remember to do it to both sides

I m the OP and earlier reported that I fixed it. well, I didn't. it stopped pop open after a while. however, I was not adjusting the springs; instead, I adjusted the spring/bolt like legs at the bottom of the trunk lid. I seemed to work but really it did not.

now that I m revisiting the thread, I see the hint to adjust the strings, the problem however is that I cant get to them. the trim/cover seems to be too rigid that I am afraid of breaking it. any hints how to get to the springs shown above>

It's actually quite flexible. I know it's a brand new car, but don't sweat it.

Adjusted mine yesterday and it was quite simple, just make sure to keep a tight grip on the spring or it pops back and you have to reach in further to grab it...

I used position 2 and it works exactly as it did when we took delivery in Munich, popping up automatically at a decent rate (not too fast, not too slow) to allow loading into the trunk.

I just have the oem lid spoiler on the lid as it came from factory and I did add a license plate frame grab, other than that no extra weight.

+1. This! Even with added weight of the deck spoiler, i still have to slam it down. Its annoying!!

I have a similar issue but yours sounds worse. Mine triggers when im moving around the trunk when my keys are in my pocket. I believe the issue is with the Carbon Fiber weave itself. Somehow the weaves throw off the sensors. On some diffusers like the MPerf, the kick sensor signals get blocked completely and kick does not work at all. So i returned my MP. Now, I have the Status Gruppe diffuser. 8 out of 10 kicks work. But sometimes when im washing the car the trunk opens even when im not kicking. Lol!

Dealer said it could not be adjusted.

My M4 trunk had always been difficult to close... the dealer insisted there was no problem.

I just checked the springs and they had incorrectly been installed in the position with the maximum spring tension. (note - the shape of the slots on my M4 don't look like the photo above, but it's easy to see which position stretches the spring most/least)

I moved both springs to the middle position and now the trunk opens slowly and closes easily.

Took all of 5 minutes - you just peel back about 6 inches of the rubber seal and the trunk liner can be pulled out slightly. The spring hooks can be moved to a lower tension position very easily.

If your M4 trunk is hard to close I really recommend checking this.

okay guys that was stupid easy. way easier than my debadging yesterday and plugging my exhaust flap modulators back in (which, yes, both of those were easy, too)

I put them on the stiffest setting ... i honestly think it took me about 3 minutes to pull the trim, put on setting 2, replace trim and weather stripping, try the trunk, then pull it apart again and put it on #3 and get it back together again. I don't know what some of you guys are talking about 5-10 min, haha. it had definitely taken me longer to type this post on my phone.

thanks for putting this DIY together!!! I'll see if my wife complains and maybe I'll do one side 3, one side 2 or just both position 2. good stuff!

This is by far the easiest fix - less than 1 minute for each spring adjustment.

I was annoyed when the hands-free release doesn't fully open the trunk when my hands are full ..... until I read this thread and fixed it. Now it is working again. Suspect the weight of the US plate + the plate frame is more than that of the ED plate, therefore, needs a stronger spring setting.

My trunk lid has always been harder to close than my wife's E92 335is, even after I installed the M Performance CF Spoiler. The instructions stated to move the spring but I figured out that it didn't need to be any stronger. I weighed the CF spoiler before I installed it and it only weighs 3-1/8 ounces, hardly enough to make any difference. The box it came in weighed way more than the spoiler itself.

I guess that I'll have to peel back the trunk liner to see which notch it's actually in.

You would think the weight difference between US and ED plates would be small as well, right?

Mine were in position-1 (weakest), so I moved them up to position-2. I always pull the recessed grips to close - so it was kind of slamming the lid down.

so if you move the spring to position 2 or 3, the trunk open automatically...
But my problem is that I have to slamm the trunk for closing... does the change of the position to 2 or 3 solve also the closing problem?
May I have set it to position three the trunk closes better?

Best wishes

No the spring tension has nothing to do with your problem.
Seems like you have an issue with lock, lid alignment(perhaps), or the stoppers (whatever they called)

Wow, that was crazy easy. Just move the hook on the end of the spring from the hole labeled position 1 up to the one labeled position 2.

I shot a video for those of you who are still on the fence about doing it. No narration, no BS intro, only what you need to see. Exactly one minute start to finish.

Thanks to MFNATIK for the image.
