Dumb question regarding back-up senors

If you do not opt for the PDC or rear view camera, do you still at least get audible tones for when backing up?

Or are we left totally screwed with no back-up distance assistant at all?

You get beeping sensors regardless. They are better than nothing, if you don't mind the bumper plugs' look.

I wish I could opt out of them when getting the camera and get a clean bumper, but you can't.

What do they say? The only dumb questions are the ones you don't ask? Not really true...

I don't understand your question In the US, you can't 'opt out' of a rear view camera, unless you just don't get the exec pack. If you want a clean bumper, you can forego the exec pack and retrofit a back-up cam.

In the US, if you don't have PDC or a rear view camera, you're left with just your eyes and your spacial senses when backing up. No beeping unless it's coming from your brain

I'm pretty sure that the "beeping" comes from the PDC. No PDC = mirrors/eyes only.

That's what I need to know.

Isn't there anyone here in the US that didn't opt for the exc. package, that can confirm if you get at least a beep or not?

I have to say the top view cam's are really nice for seeing curbs or when driving slow in tight spots (parking garage, near curbing, tight right turns), It sure has saved me a few times and has allowed me to get snug to the end of a parking spot to leave ample room and reduce door dings.

I did not get the exec package and there is no beeping whatsoever. The beeping IS the PDC which is part of the exec package. This is the description of PDC from BMW:

Ultrasound sensors integrated into the bumper at the rear of your BMW measure the distance to the nearest large object behind the vehicle. As you reverse closer, the frequency of the warning tone increases. When you're just 30 cm from the car or other obstacle, an unbroken warning tone sounds, as a signal to brake.

That is pretty lame, especially on a car this expensive. Something like back-up (which I consider a safety item) should be standard equipment. And even if its not, it should not be lumped in with $3K option package, it should at least be a la carte.

The above camera is the best future and it works great, it has saved me a few times in tight spots.

100% agreed... if it was like $500, i would have paid for it. There is however an aftermarket camera around $600 with OEM integration in the nav:

If you're buying a car "this expensive" a $3k OPTIONAL PACKAGE shouldn't really be something you bitch about. Are you gonna whine that replacement tires are too expensive as well? Or insurance? You gotta pay to play.

Anyway, wait two MYs and you'll get your free back up camera.

Responses like this are really stupid.

You are missing the point completely.

This is such a weird question....

The PDC is the beeping, if its not there, no beeping...

So no, you will not get any beeping, you will only have your eyes, brain, and luck

You get nothing, nothing!!! There are quite a few complaints about BMW packaging this "feature" and forcing you to shell out $4300 or 3500 MY 16' for a camera that comes standard on a car 1/3 of the price. There are some nice OEM camera's you can purchase from $600-$1000 on Bimmer Tech. Definitely black mark on BMWNA in my opinion.

Well, I got Exec Pack but not for the cameras - I REALLY wanted the HUD, and now absolutely LOVE it. Integration with Nav is awesome, and I can finally turn off the stupid Nav screen and get my directions projected into the line of sight on the windshield - fantastic!

Cameras and the heated steering wheel are nice too. Just really wish I could have ditched the PDC bleepers. Looks like it is optional with MY16, not sure if if that was the case in '15.
In summary - don't know Exec Pack - that $3.5K buys you a lot of good stuff.
