GTS Replacement
Thinking about a replacement for my gts,
What did you guys go to next. Considering a 718 Gt4, would love another N/A 6spd car and gt3 is out of reach Maybe a 991.1 gt3 ? Feedback welcome |

Proper racecar and a GTS for collecting dust
For actual advice, used car prices are stupid right now. +15% to +30% YOY. Unless you hate money, sit on the GTS until the end of the driving season. Or sell the GTS and pick something up(991.x GT3 in my opinion) in November. |

I replaced mine with a GT3T, but since you say GT3 is out of reach, that doesn't help you.
In your scenario I think it's pretty much the GT4 or the AMG GTR. The GT4 having the advantage since you prefer a 6spd. I have a 981 GT4 that I've gone on record saying that I prefer over the M4 GTS. That could be an option too if you don't need to have the latest and greatest 718…IMO the latter is not a significant enough upgrade to justify the higher price, ADM games, etc. |

GT3 991.2 or higher as a replacement. Didn't the 991.1 have random engine issues?

my porsche dealership will get me a gt4 allocation at msrp which is why im considering it compared to a 991.1, gt4= 6spd, new, and warranty, I dont mind waiting till the end of the year or next to pick something, its no rush a 991.1 would be nice but not when they went from 110 to 140. .2 is ideal but all are over 200k right now, |

its not that the gt3 is our of reach per say as ill wait for the market to come back down to earth before paying an inflated price on one currently. Quote:
2014 I believe, but 14 and 15 come with a 10 yr warranty so not a big deal |

This is an interesting take on the two gens. 718 as the better all-rounder, 981 more engaging.
718 does seem considerably faster on track, if that matters. Desire for n/a and 6 speed good reasons to move on from GTS. It can't emulate that experience. But in exchange for the manual you lose some performance accessibility moving to a GT car. So, yes you're rowing the gears, but at street speeds the cars can seem clinical. GTS is high strung, entertainment anywhere, anytime. 981 may be a better choice if you're focused on street performance. Ability to access and enjoy more of the car's performance more often than in the updated version. Would feel pretty damn slow compared to the GTS, though.

I love the GTS and will add another one im sure later on tbh, but I also loved my e30 with its 240 hp, so hp isn't an issue, from what im told, plenum, exhaust and tune gets you close to 500hp anyway. for some reason the 981 just felt cheap to me, the 718 is where that car should be, looks, feel etc. its very well balanced all around. whatever limited M model the g8X get im sure will sucker me back in, |

Think it's likely both options are more playful for the street than 991 gen GT3s. Your love for the E30 is representative of what I'm getting at with the performance accessibility factor.

This is the only thing I sometimes miss with the GTS. But GT4/Spyder not fast enough or fun enough on the street to entice me. A 997 RS otoh...

GTS feels consistently alive, whether you’re on road or track. So light on its feet and responsive. If you want, as traction challenged at low speeds as something like an old GT500 but still controllable and fast as hell on track. Not sure what else does that. Maybe modern forced induction Ferraris. GTS is very unique.

I’ve been looking/highly considering 718 Cayman GT4 but only thing preventing the trigger pull is that it’s a 2 seater and don’t know if I can do dedicated 2 seater when I still have two kids and wifey.
Sure we have other vehicles but the M3 is more utilitarian in that sense… That and I can’t seem to find any GT4’s that don’t have ADM’s or even available to test. |

Anyway, the GT4/Spyder is a great car but pretty boring in comparison to the GTS on the street imo. Love the shift feel and sound can be nice (exhaust needed) but motor doesn't feel special (no fireworks) and it's really slow in comparison. Doesn't have that nice yaw factor the GTS has even at part throttle. GT4 has 300lbft of torque... Like you said, doesn't feel as alive on the street and it was too clinical and kinda inert to me. Probably better as a track car. Shifter is really good though, so if you don't mind being slow just to row those gears is fun. GTS is very unique. Hard to replicate the experience and even harder to improve upon enough to supplant. Lots of stuff enticing until you drive it and find out its meh.

GTS 0-60: 3.7 0-100: 8.0 0-130: 13.3 1/4 mile: 11.8 @ 123.3mph GT4 Manual (Cayman GTS 4.0 has almost identical times) 0-60: 3.7 0-100: 8.3 0-130: 14.0 1/4 mile: 11.9 @ 120mph GT4 PDK 0-60: 3.3 0-100: 7.8 0-130: 13.7 1/4 mile: 11.6 @ 121mph I totally get subbing in a GT4 or GTS 4.0 for an M4 GTS. Just depends on preference in terms of row-your-own, N/A vs. turbo, mid-engined handling characteristics vs front, and again, 10% less weight is nothing to sneeze at. Now, prices are completely out of whack because of the pandemic, but a stripper GTS 4.0 at $89k or GT4 at $100k seems like a steal. After I've had some fun with the 360, I'll definitely be looking at GT4 (probably RS) as a replacement. |

Agreed. Gt4 def is not slow. They are the same class of vehicle afa the racing class goes. They take more “effort” to wind out but the power to weight ratio is where it is. M4 wins though when is comes to truck space and practicality if you will.

if you've driven a GT4/Spyder back to back with a GTS on the street you would see what i mean, just doesn't have the torque punch which makes the GTS so fun. magazine numbers don't paint the whole picture.
