I have an original AA midpipe and would like to buy the resonated connector pipes - are they available separately?

Thanks - $500 is a bit steep for these pipes, so I'll have to wait for them to go on sale.

Another option is to source your own resonators and weld them into your existing connector pipes (I think that was the original premise of this thread).

If you can weld, you'll be money ahead over buying new resonated pipes. If you have to pay someone to weld them in you might be better off just buying new ones.

Any exhaust shop should be able to weld in resonators. It's not that hard to do.

I set mine up and tacked them and had a professional finish-weld them. I spent about $250 in total.
I can weld, but not well enough to make them look this pretty.

I'd buy them at that price, but that's the price for the non-resonated connector pipes. Choose the option for resonated on AA's website and they're $499.

They appear to be larger than the ones I used, so I would imagine they're more quiet. But some of the other guys in here used much larger resonators than I did and got good sound (with catless downpipes).

Ok, now that I actually have the single mid pipe here in front of me the issue of space is much more apparent. As mentioned before the passenger side (on LH drive anyway) has plenty of straight pipe where a resonator can easily be cut in. The driver's side looks to be a bit more challenging as the straight section of pipe is also where the hanger is welded. It seems adding a resonator to this section could cause issues with hanger placement.

After comparing the res and non-res connector pipe pics from AA it appears they are slightly different in design to allow the resonator to be added without interfering with hanger placement. So, I guess adding resonators may be a bit more work than I first thought…

Seems like adding short resonators may be easiest but the shortest I've found so far is 12" oal and something shorter would be needed. Looks like this is what 1000hp did…?

Second might've to use the 12" resonators and worry about hanger placement later or re-tube the driver side connector pipe like AA did.

This is what I used. They're 6.5" long overall. The body is probably 5ish inches long.

No prob.

I wouldn't want them any larger, as they would probably mute the sound too much with the single mid.

I have done this mod with vibrant resonators
Vibrant 1792 Bottle Style Resonator https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B000E3VHVO/...ZSJTS8583XQAFF
They fit but you have to cut the ends off. The hangers can be welded to the outside of the resonators and if mesured properly they still worked for me with a little bit of fiddeling.
As for sound the car is noticeably more quiet but at WOT its still pretty loud and also slightly a deeper sound. I will post a sound clip or vid soon

Bump

Any sound clips with AA single resonated midpipe? Interested in that since I'm running catless downpipes. Don't want it to be too loud with catless dp's and single non res mid.

I'm running catless downpipes, but zero rasp at any rpm range but I also have a different brand of EL pipe that is designed differently.

Inked Custom system custom built
-3.5" tapered catless downpipes
-2.8" catless double resonated midpipe
-custom rear valved muffler with carbon tips

Mate, thank you so much.

I was running with decat downpipes and single mid pipe with mpe back box and I seriously hated my car lately especially in low rpms. Car was sounding like a tractor and all embrassing sounds in low rpms. Also was stupidly loud.

Firstly i swapped my downpipes to arm resonated ones, they did help a bit but not much. After listening your exhaust i decided to put these two into my car and the result is amazing.

I have never thought that this car can sound like this, shocking results I would say. Right now I have 4 resonators ( 2 in downpipe, 2 in mid pipe like yours) and as opposed to before, I now love low rpms. Car just growls, no rasp, no tin sound, no weird tractor sound, nothing. It feels like a sports car again. I honestly did not expect such a difference. Even the startup sound is way more growly now. I would say car sounds more like v8. It also added a bit of a natural burble, very very small amounts.

so my current setup if anyone curious: Mpe back box, resonated single mid pipe, resonated downpipes. Even cold start low rpm valves fully open does not sound embrassing.

Edit: The drone added after MPE is also gone. No more weird sounds to be honest

Thanks again for the suggestion.
What size resonators did you go with and do you have any pics or more sound clips?

Sounds nice and clean and mellow. Super quiet with these and CTS high flow cats. Might need a louder muffler now.
Nice. Which resonators are these? Still deciding what size go with. Can these by cut and welded in while being off of the car?

Lookup aero tr254 resonators.

One of the few choices that will fit easily. Best bet is the have the exhaust on the car, then cut/weld the resonators in. If your handy with making a quick wood jig you could probably get by with doing it off the car

The amount of time and money I'll put into this will cost me more the a set of the updated resonated pipes. If I can locate a good welder then I'll probably go this route. The MAD midpipes are quality pieces. With the amount I'd spend, I wonder if it would be better exchanging it for the Active pipes with the resonators from Extreme Powerhouse. I was quoted $150 by one shop to cut and weld resonators into the pipes. So, I may go that route. The TR254 are small enough and I've read what you've found to be the easiest. Another option are Vibrant 1792 resonators or the TR251 (smaller at 9.5" body compared to the TR252 12"), which I think will produce a deeper tone.
