Alpine vs BM3 drive-ability questions
For users of either company's latest and greatest revisions, are there any throttle tip-in/surging/sensitivity quirks or glitches? I'm looking for as close to OEM as possible.
Which would you choose for the CS tune if you could do it again today?

because threads get removed, posts get removed, people get banned with the whole tune scene
As far as I'm concerned neither BM3 or Alpine request this, others however... Edit: if looking for true plug and play I would choose a tune that is so plug and play it only comes in one flavor. EPIC or ESS would be my choice, as usual

While I have not used BM3 before, I have used Alpine from Stage 2 > Stage 2+ Catted and then Stage 2+ Catless.
With every stage I upgraded to From Stage 2, throttle sensitivity became much more sensitive especially to Stage 2+ catless where even my 2nd gear is super sensitive. I know at least with Alpine, you can always call Alex or email him and he will generate a new file to dial back the sensitivity of the throttle. And completely FOC. Most that have requested for this usually fixes this problem of the sensitive throttle or bucking. But remember, you only have so much throttle to dial in for that amount of gains in power so I do not think you can really get it as close to stock but it will be better for sure. As for me, I did not do any adjsutments to the throttle as I am 80% of the time driving in Efficient as a daily driver. As for Sports+, I have gotten used to how to modulate the throttle to prevent the sharp tip-in and bucking so I find the default throttle for the Alpine tune okay for me actually. If you can't get used to it, then you can always request Alex to send you a file to dial back the throttle sensitivity. Hope this helps...

I did have a slight "stutter" at ~80% throttle with one of the tunes, but as far as I can tell it has been fixed (car is being stored for the winter).

About a week into BM3. Only issue I have had is after the idle stop-start it gives a little rev when it restarts which can cause the car to lurch forward if you're already on the accelerator at all. It also seems to have a more aggressive down shift when in sport plus when braking to a stop. Neither has been a significant issue. The first is the only that impacts "drive ability". Overall VERY happy with the stage 1 tune and transmission tune combo on an otherwise stock M4. Drives better than stock or JB4.

I sent a PM to those who asked, since I have tried both tunes. Running BM3 GTS tune right now, and it is such a good tune for daily driving and plenty of smooth, linear power when I want it. Don’t plan on changing at all, except for going to Stage 1 occasionally.

I had BM3, went to Alpine, then went back to BM3 for E85 with Paul Johnson.
I ran Stage 1 and Stage 2 BM3, for Alpine, I ran Stage 2+. Alex's tune feels both smoother and more powerful compared to BM3 Stage 1/2 OTS maps, especially on ACN 91 gas. I felt like even on ACN 91 maps, the BM3 tunes felt like it was pulling timing up top. Didn't experience that with the Alpine tune. Confirmed with Dragy that Alex's tune dropped a couple of tenths off my 60-130 time compared to BM3 Stage 2. His tune is amazing on the E9x M3 as well, I had his tune on both my E92 M3s. If I had stuck with regular gas, I would have kept the Alpine Tune on my F80. The only downside is that you can't resell the license like BM3. I'm reminded of the $600 paperweight every time I look at the Alpine Tuning cable in my glove box. |

If your looking for most OEM like tune, Alpine's Stage 2 (GTS like) tune has been spot on for me. Perfect driveability without overly sensitive throttle and linear power deliver. It rips up top and has manners around town. Definitely recommend.
