Keyed Hood Touch Up Paint Enough?
Welp, some a**hole had nothing better to do with their lives ... touch up paint would suffice from a body shop? What would be a decent price point to look out for when trying to get this fixed?

People really suck bro. I'm sorry about that. Can you feel it with your fingernail? A repaint is probably the only way to make it right. |

Could barely feel majority of it. The portion closer to the bumper (1/2 an inch) can be felt by my nail. I think a buff and polish just might take most of that out.

That looks very deep, that will be very visible with touchup. It might look ok from certain angles but from most will very super visible, especially it being a large flat surface like the hood. You might be able to get away with it on a white car, but not with this.
I accidently scratched my quarterpanel with some stupid fucking zipper on my pants - very visible after touchup too because the paint is metalic. Don't even get your hopes up. You're not buffing that out either.

Same shit on mine, my scratch is RIGHT BEHIND the door so just enough that both the door and quarter-panel must be painted. I did touch it up, but with metallic paints depending on the light it will go from almost invisible to more visible then before touching it up... Had I gotten the door instead, my friend who sells bmw parts would have put on a used YMB door and we'd have called it a day.

The best option just might be getting a second-hand hood. |

I would use this as an opportunity for that upgrade, as well.
In fact, you could have a body shop quote you on a new standard OEM hood and have that cleared with your insurance. Then have the shop order the GTS hood and pay the difference out of pocket. Alternatively, you could have the shop quote you on the GTS hood and try to have that covered by insurance. However, that may be pushing a questionable legality situation.

Why would insurance pay for a new hood vs. just paying for a respray? The hood is not even dented.

Yeah, in retrospect I'm not sure what I was thinking with that one. It makes precisely 0 sense for them to replace the hood, over just a respray. Disregard.

They will have the same difficulty matching a GTS hood which needs to be sprayed.
Just respray the hood. It won't be noticeable to 99% of people. The other 1% are anal retentive obsessive compulsive forum dwellers - and who cares about them anyway. |

A Chipex kit will sort that completely. It's fantastic stuff.
