Need some experienced help.
Hello Guys,
My name is Michael and this is my first post. I'm coming to all of you asking for your experienced help. I am currently restoring my 1994 Toyota Supra and I would very much like to paint it Individual Velvet Blue Metallic. My question is, where am I able to find two gallons of this color? I've been to several body shop supply stores and they all tell me that velvet blue metallic was only available from 1996 to 2006. I've been told several times that their computers do not show it as a current color listed for BMW. I've seen velvet blue metallic on a 2002 3 series, but for some odd reason, the color looks MUCH more brilliant on the newer M3 and M4. Are there different variances of this color? Is there a difference between velvet blue metallic and individual velvet blue metallic or are they the same color? BMW told me that the color code is 490, however when I look at the paint code on the car, it comes up as 379. This has all become very confusing at this point. I'm in love with this color and would love to have it on my restoration. Can you guys please help me out? Any feedback whatsoever would be greatly appreciated!!!! Also, would anyone happen to know what brand of paint BMW uses at the factory? I've been told that it was Sikkens, but I don't know for sure. Again, thank you in advance for your help! Michael |

Yes, that's it!!! I was driving by my local BMW dealership when I saw a Heritage Edition M4 in that color. I immediately fell in love with it. I just think that it would look so incredibly awesome on a Supra. I've been trying to figure out why none of the auto body supply stores are showing it as a "current" color.
I would need two gallons because I'm also spraying the inside of the cabin. I'm having a hard time trying to find out if color code 379 is the same as "Individual Velvet Blue Metallic" on the Heritage M4. So, I decided to ask for help here since you guys are the experts. This is my 4th MKIV and I want to keep it for a long time and possibly hand it down to my son when I'm too old to drive ;-) I believe the car you posted is Justin's car. He's done an incredible job with it. If you Guys could point me in the right direction, I would be so incredibly thankful! |

Not sure if you've seen this already but the 2 PDFs attached in that thread should pretty much cover all the BMW "individual" colors. Otherwise hopefully Justin can chime in, he's pretty active on these boards if you want to send him a PM to get the color code directly from the source himself :-).

Yes, I've seen the Individual color catalog. Color code 379 on the Heritage M4 is Velvet Blue Metallic, but the catalog shows it as Velvet Violet Pearl Effect. I just want to be sure I'm getting the correct color and variance. I would hate to spend $1,500 on paint and later be disappointed with it because it looks different. I suppose I'll message Justin and ask. Thank you so much for your help and time!
Regards. |

Thanks so much! Would you happen to know if there is a difference between velvet blue metallic and individual velvet blue metallic or are they the same color?
Once I get the Supra painted in this color, I'll post some pictures so that you guys can see it if you don't mind. I'm just saying because I know that this is a BMW forum. 😉 |

Thanks Aliiin!
I've owned a few BMW's and have always enjoyed the experience. They're fantastic automobiles. I'll be checking with the local paint shop tomorrow to see if they can possibly spray a few panels for me. I'm ready to begin spraying the engine bay asap. I'll post pics of the samples when I get them. Thanks Guys! |
