My clear bra guy said putting it there would be really obvious but I have never seen it there before so I wouldn't know. Anyone have in that area?

That's such a odd spot. Is that from flying debris from cars in front/general road debris, or from the front tires kicking crap up? Or both?

This car has made me more paranoid. Or maybe it's this forum haha

I'd love to see some pics of member rides who have the film placed over the rear fender arches

You should have entire panels done not some parts of the panels or you will see the edges of the foil and there will also be dirt stuck to the edges and for example wax residu or other cleaning products. I would never have panels half wrapped if that is what you mean.

I have no idea. I have 300 miles on the car and I rarely drive behind anyone and when I do it's at least 3 car lengths away

Rock chips with wide fenders/hips?

How are you guys' paint around the rear hip areas holding up on your F80s? Even tho there is factory clear bra on the lower rear fenders, I have chips right above where the strip ends! I have noticeable marks where debris has hit the clear bra and left marks on that as well! Its not like I live off some country dirt roads around my parts, but damn!

I also noticed lots of marks/chips starting to form right behind the front wheel rocker panel as well. I should have clear bra'd the rocker panel like I did in my M5. Anyone else having/noticing more chips/pits than usual? I also only have 3600 miles.

I'm thinking about removing the factory clear piece and replacing with a slightly larger XPel Ultimate piece.

When I had my expel done I replaced the factory strip with a much larger one that terminates at the wheel arch. That has protected me so far.

I removed the factory one and installed a larger one running up to the bend on the quarter panel , this allows the clear bra to be invisible.

Hahah no spacers. Factory suspension. Ok, I'm gonna replace the factory strip with a larger piece of XPel Ultimate. Having a solid color definitely shows more imperfections than metallic.

Where did you guys get your kits? I just bought front end protection kit from a distibutor in ca, and they didn't have rear fender protection.. This is my first time working with xpel kit and its exceptionally easy to install. Either that, or I am getting really good at installing these since it is my third car with clear bra.. Lol

There was no standard pre cut kit. My installer winged it.

XPel has templates that your installer pays a licensing fee and uses a plotter to cut. Makes for a perfect installation. I would not trust someone to freehand no matter how good they are. Eventually they will cut your paint accidentally. You'll end up like another forum member who thought he got the best installer but he ended up leaving cut lines on his CF roof.

That sucks sorry to hear. Can you take some pics and highlight the parts of the front rocker and also where it's extending past the factory film? When mine arrives I'm getting film applied so would be good to know where I need to cover and how high or wide to go.

Hence why I buy precut kits. Xpel, 3m or any other clear film is not easily cut, so at some point you will end up cutting into your paint no matter how good you are.

Xpel templates were used for most of the car - but there's nothing available for the "hip pads".

I think the roads you drive definitely have a lot to do with it. I drive semi-frequently on the highway and already have a few chips after about 2000 miles. My friend who rarely drives on the highways has none at all and had nearly 6000 miles on his M3.

American roads are not anywhere near maintained as well as European roads. Different tax structure accounts for some of it. But our roads are not very good and have rocks/pebbles etc as well as nasty potholes and other surface imperfections.

I remember seeing a documentary where truck drivers were complaining about the bad roads in some states and about the fact that they had to spent a lot of the money they earnt on repairs.

The roads in Belgium are ok but not the best especially considering how much taxes we have to pay for driving. To give an example I had to pay 5.000 euro just to register the car and I pay each year about 800 euro to keep driving it. Besides these taxes I have to pay 500 euro/month tax (depending on co2 and buy price) because it is a car registered on my company. We also pay 1.3 euro for a liter of gasoline. The government is promising for years that this money will be used for improving the roads but so far it remains with promises.

Somehow your situation seems worse than not paying much in taxes and having crap infrastructure.
