thanks for this, I just searched and found a couple of threads on it. Of course I got this tip from Tommy L Garage's youtube. I'm glad I didn't attempt it.

hahaha. I love Magic erasers... for the home! and even then, don't go HAM with it.

CG - as much as their products aren't on par with other brands and as wild as their marketing department may be (which, just meant they did their job well), I got to give it to them that they're the reason why many of us got into detailing in the first place, although most have probably moved onto better products. So yeah, personally I wouldn't buy any more of their products, but definitely ignited the interest for many.

Accurate and agreed. Their marketing while deceiving is also very well executed.

Even on the steering wheel. Have heard it can make the steering wheel leather glossy. Anyone able to chime in?

When I got home, I gave this meguiars stuff a try that I've had sitting around for a few years dating back to my 135i days.

I tried a bit on the door handle where the glue and handprint was and then I tried a small portion of my shiny steering wheel for kicks and giggles.

It cleaned up the glue nicely and completely removed the unappealing shine from the steering wheel to dry to a nice matte finish. I was impressed for how little effort I used.
Great stuff for the vinyl and plastic panels … I still noticed a slight shine on the steering wheel when this was applied. Tried my best to remove it with a damp microfiber cloth. I think the most impressive video I saw was of one guy applying colourlock with a horsehair brush.. and it went right back to a matte finish. Still, I wonder if leatherique can achieve the same thing… if it needs the brush, etc

Did you apply the leatherique with a brush? How did you go about it? Looks like it might have removed some of the dye, no?

I like P&S Interior Cleaner diluted 1:1

I spray heavily on a microfiber towel and try to agitate the wheel with the towel as gently as possible

Sometimes this takes multiple sprays / passes

I actually have this stuff. I felt it left a bit of a shine. But my steering wheel like new so I really want to preserve that matte finish.

I do really like the Quik Interior Detailer for the dash and other vinyl / plastic pieces… it seems to repel dust quite well… either that or because I never drive with the windows down, haha.

Warm water and a microfiber towel, that's it and that's all. No chemicals or anything else should be used.

I bought my F80 with relatively low miles, but the steering wheel was EXTREMELY shiny. Soap didnt work, warm water didnt work, normal cleaners didnt work, leatherique sitting in the sun took it from gloss black back to the soft supple matte leather. It's amazing. That shiny wheel has been an eye sore for me, I've been "self-concious" about if you will. Absolutely hated it. Now it's back to stock look and feel, I'm a happy camper.

Click that play button and watch the before and after (Should be at 19:32, timestamp copy didnt work). Stuff works miracles.

Throw out all the car detailing products.

Apply your wifes makeup remover and remove with a warm microfiber cloth. Before you worry if it's safe remember she uses it on her face.

I personally use The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser. The best leather cleaner ever frankly.

Its more a facial cleanser. Its a great place to start if you already have one in yoru drawer.

Yeah, but these often have alcohol in them, which I think can dry out the steering wheels leather.

Have you used the Quick Interior detailer long term (how many miles) on the steering wheel. Some say use it, some say just use it for the plastic and vinyl. Curious to know if it stands the test of time and doesn’t eventually wear out the wheels leather.

+1 on Colourlock… did a great job making the steering wheel like new.
