Question on CCB

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Looking at paperwork on a gts that had about 1,700 miles. The PPI shows front brakes due in 9,000 miles and rear due in 16,000 miles.

Does that sound normal, or maybe this has spent time on the track?

Thank You.

Most owners are too scared to run it at the track, let alone before the recommended 2k break in service.

I highly doubt that it’s accurate

I'm pretty sure that means the brake pads not the rotors.

Ceramic rotor replacement is generally unlikely unless the car is tracked. You have to be certain by asking the dealership do they mean the brakes pads or the rotors but based on the wording, it is just brake pads and brake flushing, which is fairly normal for these cars at certain miles. It isn't that expensive to do.

Pads at 1,700 miles?

Im pretty sure you don't measure the thickness of the discs. you weigh them. if they drop below a certain weight they need to be replaced. Nothing to do with the thickness. The minimum weight is stamped on it.

That's just a guess and they are referring to the pads.

The rotors must be removed and weighed to ascertain wear. They wear via high temperature oxidation, so only track use will create much wear at all.

I'm at 50k with all stock components. The idrive says front pads are due in 90k miles, and rears are due in 140k miles. Those numbers haven't changed since I took ownership at 25k miles.

CCB's will outlast the ownership of the car if not tracked....... if tracked they are a consumable. An expensive one.... I an at 44k on my M4 and they are still showing in the I-drive at over 100k life left. Think they start at 150k

There is a company that is called Carboteq that promoted a video and a device to measure the wear of the ceramic brake rotors. Looks like they demonstrate on a BMW system.

You guys can look it up on google. Ill try to post the video link. I have been trying to find a mechanic that has one but it’s expensive and hard to find anyone with one. I think Hollywood mechanic mentions that he was thinking about buying one, never heard anything after that.

Yes, they make an analysis tool that some VAG/Merc/BMW dealerships may have. It is not worth the price in my mind - removing the calipers and discs to measure takes all of about 10 mins while you are raising / lowering the car from track ride height.

$6100. Can buy a new set of rotors for that.
