Another vote for Akebonos. Almost OEM bite and night and day difference in dust, plus it's a no brainer to order from FCPEuro, you pay for them ONCE.
Ok thanks for confirming bc it happens when I back out of my garage and tap on the brakes and after I move forward and tap on the brakes. After that I don’t hear a peep haha. Love the OEM like bite but no dust at all! I can get away without washing the car for a month when I don’t feel like doing it haha

In the past, I've used Hawk ceramic pads with great success and low dust.

Has anyone compared them to these Akebonos? I don't see them mentioned in this thread.

thx

Can't decide. Akebono or Power Stop Z26. Looks like everyone is going Akebono.

Akebono. I had both. No brainer. Better bite and stopping power with the akebono. I never felt confident stopping with the power stops…

I got the Akebonos a while back after perusing this thread and LOVE them. Brake dust level is night and day compared to OEM and performance is very good, more than enough for daily driving duties.

I too got the Akebono, front and rear on my F80C. Literally forgot I had new pads, feel exactly like STOCK but literally 99% less brake dust. Even after a month of driving there is less dust than the OEM pads after 2 days. A must buy!

Can someone recommend a pad that is lower dust (nice but not required) compared to OEM but provides significant cold bite? I am running Akebonos now but I want something that is grippier. After hours of research, I am thinking of the following pads:

- Ferodo DS2500
- EBC Yellow Stuff
- Stoptech Sport

Any recommendations are welcome!!

Appreciate the links / info in the OP.

Just purchased the last set in stock at RockAuto. This will be my first changeout on my 2018 F80 that I purchased last summer. Excited to see the difference in dust compared to the OEM pads!

I find Akebonos grip more than plenty when cold, if not the same as OEM pads. Seeing that you have the same year car and model as mine, have you changed out your brake fluid? When I swapped my pads I also did SS lines and flushed the system with new Motul race fluid. It was time to do it anyways so just knocked it all out while I had the car up on the lift.

I did SS lines and it really improved braking. However I also switched to Porterfield R4S pads. I like the R4S over the Akebonos because it doesn't fade.

What made you go with the R4S pads over Ferodo DS2500 pads ?

Availability. Porterfield is down the street from where I live.

I’m looking to replace my OEM pads (2015, but only 36k miles) with the Akebono’s based on this thread, but is the conventional wisdom to replace the rotors too? Would like to avoid if possible given the cost, of course, but will replace if it’s preferred.

My rears are about to go out. Most people are saying Akebonos in this thread but how does it relate to OEM stopping power? I don't want to give up brake power for less dust lol.

No perceiveable difference on the street. Bites as much or more compared to stock. You won't be disappointed.

It's similar but not as good as stock. These are street pads after all so you give up a little something vs the M pads where you can do both street and track driving (obv not as good as aftermarket track pads though).

I had the power stop z23 and I can at least compare the Akebono to those. I've said it before on this thread that I never felt that confident with the Z23 and after switching to Akebonos I gained my braking confidence back. They are better for sure. Well worth the extra few dollars. Also, when removing my Z23 (had it on for only a few thousand miles so had plenty of pad left), the pads were separated from the backing plate.

Edit: for the rears I doubt you would notice the difference since most of the braking is done up front. You will however notice the diff in brake dust btw the front and rear if your fronts are still on stock pads
