What did your GTS hood look like when it was delivered?

So I just took delivery of my GTS hood via fedex freight. Inspected all corners for damage, nothing shipping related except for rubs from the cardboard. This thing wasn’t covered in foam or anything protective. My main question is in the pictures. When was going to arrive primered I didn’t expect the surface to look like it took a shotgun blast. Any thoughts?

Is this OEM? It’s supposed to be smooth.

Yea. OEM direct from BMW. At least the carbon underneath looks fine.

Contact seller and request either a new hood (and to cover return shipping of the defective hood) or a deep discount on this one.

Seller should have inspected hood before shipping.

That's shit. Most likely was not prepped properly before paint. Maybe had leftover mold release or some oil, etc.

Def take it up with the seller.

Maybe Pin holes from the carbon weave. They didn't properly coat the piece.

Where did you buy it from ?

I bought mine from BMWpartspro and it had the same issue like yours, but not like that much.... my guy fixed it while painting the hood. He applied a layer of clearcoat to fill the pinholes before painting.

After paying over 5k, that is bs. I would not accept that. The paint shop is gonna ask for a lot more to prep that. Where did you buy it from?

If that 'fisheye' effect is only in the primer layer, then it's sloppy but doesn't mean you need a new hood. The shop will just lightly sand it down and reapply primer as necessary. I can't imagine they'd ask for more - you have to scuff and prep the primer coat anyway, it would be a chickenshit move to charge you more for not a whole lot more work

I thought for a moment that this was a finished frozen gray paint job...that would have been unacceptable

Nothing like that on mine, but the primer coat wasn't anywhere near paint ready

Was full of waves from the carbon and random dips and scuffs which needed to be primed and sanded a few times to get peel consistent with rest of car

I wouldn't be too concerned as your body shop will need to do additional prep anyway before painting - any shop going straight to paint should be avoided

Requires a good amount of labor for a $5,000 OEM piece. I would not be happy... unless the dealer gave me a healthy discount to keep it

If you're going to be painting it anyway then the shop would need to prep the piece regardless. I've never seen any OEM part be ready to paint out of the package.

Ok ignore everyone saying get a new hood. Your paint guy will seal that up and you’ll never know you had those freckles underneath.

Ok. Why did they prime it in the first place? And I am wrapping my car so I expected a smooth surface to wrap.

They prime it because painting it is the obvious thing you should be doing. Don’t just wrap it for the love of god.

Can anyone explain what happened to this thing? The vendor I purchased this from says this is completely normal and just needs some putty on it.

I would be embarrassed to sell a 5k dollar hood looking like this.
