Hmmm...I was told during my ED that my M3 trunk was carbon-plastic composite, not metal. A magnet won’t stick to it either. Are you sure about this statement?

Yup. The M3 has the standard 3-series bootlid. Only the M4 has a lightweight aerodynamically enhanced bootlid.

You can’t really trust those delivery “specialists” at the Welt.

I like the M4 better, but because of the kid I need the M3. Currently drive a 328i so the M3 will be a seamless transition for the better in every way.

That's the best way to put it I think.

I like the M3 a little more in appearance, especially the rear fenders.

Generally prefer coupes, though if I were to have a 2-door, would have kept the 991.

Alas, family situation currently mandates a 4-door with real rear seats.

The 4 series and m4 have real back seats though. The rear seat room isn't much different from the 3. The 4 does give up some headroom in back due to the lower roof, but children won't be much affected. The main difference with the coupe is down to access due to having to move the front seats forward to get in back. If you don't mind doing that daily to place your child in his seat, or your passengers don't mind, then the m4 is still fairly practical. For what it's worth, I know people who have two child seats in a 2 series, and they haven't gotten rid of the car yet...

Yes, I've been in the back of an M4, and it is decently roomy. But access is the problem. I wouldn't mind, but my wife would!

I'm just going to be patient until I can get back into a 911, and timing may work out well since the 992 is coming soon.

Another issue is that I really miss how the 911 drives, especially the steering vs the M3. And the M4 isn't going to steer any better. And overall driving satisfaction is so much better in the 911.

I see what you're saying. Might as well wait until a coupe is more appropriate and go one better with a Porsche. In the meantime it isn't as if you're giving up much if any performance with the m3 instead of the m4 anyway.

thought i wanted an M4, i am a convertible guy but no point with the young baby so naturally i looked at the M4, then i saw an M3 and M4 parked next to each other and it was a no brainer M3 all day long.

looks more mean and squat, you get these lovely flared arches in the wing mirrors that scream M car.

massive bonus is its really easy to get the DD in her rear facing car seat.

i drive past loads of M4's where i live (hard to tell they are Ms until close as they are std colours) but few M3 (can spot them a mile off), prices of the M3 seem to be slightly higher which was a negative when buying as it cost me more for MY 17 that i got a yea rold.

Something to consider regarding cost: if you are going to get exec package, it comes standard on M4 so the price difference becomes minimal. However, it seems that M3 holds its value better.

The exec package is not standard on the M4 in the US. Is it where you live?

Hmm come to think of it I may have been confused. At least some of the inclusions of the exec came on M4? May just be the leather seats? I just checked site and built an M4 and it seems you are correct. I could have sworn some of the items came standard , maybe that’s changed.

Can't go wrong with either choice. My wife and I are in Europe right now doing an ED for my dad (4 series Vert). Last week we rocked an M3 on demand from the Welt for a few hours and really loved the wider rear profile/hips.

We have a baby boy bun in the oven right now and my wife was like maybe you should get the M3 next go around. As you know the F80 is going out of production so it's another M4 ED for me next year.

I'm gonna be the guy with a baby seat in the back of his sports coupe/car
