If BMW doesn't fix the nasty electric steering, it won't matter how much it weighs or how much power it makes, it'll still drive like a Towncar.
That electric steering is the reason BMW has been losing ALL comparison's lately.

Probably close in terms of straight line (117 mph trap) but nowhere near as good on track or top end. And some 10 years later.

I'm sure it will be right in like with a base 991. I don't see it trapping 120 like a 991S or being able to put down the track times a 991S does by any stretch.

Again, the 911 is simply the benchmark to bmw. They know it themselves and openly admit to looking up to porsche in those regards as they should.

Likely no options other than ceramic brakes and cf seats. So no options other than weight reducing ones.

Where has anybody seen or heard of carbon fiber seats in the M4? Am I missing something?

quoted from spy shots that featured CF seats

Carbon Fiber Seats

Carbon fiber front seats can be made out in the photos as the F80 M3 drives by the camera. Although its CF weave can't be seen, the carbon fiber back of the seats are clearly reflecting light and it's easy to tell that the seats are of the single piece 'racing' variety - without separate headrests. Remember, BMW recently fit standard carbon fiber race seats in the E90 M3 CRT (with heavily bolstered individual seats in the back). Might we see a similar setup in the new M3 and M4?

Same here. I wish they'd given us more detail than "this afternoon". Afternoon in what time zone? It's after 5:30 PM in Munich right now.

High noon....... if Gary Cooper appears you`ll know it`s about time

Anyway; I`m very anxious, because this M4 could be the successor off my brilliant 1M.

But then again, there maybe a Porsche Cayman GTS, also probably an M2...

OMG, this is gonna be difficult...........

Meh... Can't believe we get excited over 3,300 lbs.

No M3 should have ever weighed more than that to begin with. And now it seems like an "achievement".

They're effectively saying "Hey look, we reduced the weight and changed the panels a bit. Yay!"

M3 should be a lightweight car. Period. It almost seems like they did us a favor. Let's pay $70k and thank them on our knees.

It should have a higher trap speed than the 991S due to having a lot more overall power. I think for once the M3, yes M3, will out acclerate (not laptime) the Carrera S

Not really.

I don't know what exactly you folks expect from a GT car based off a very common road car. As BMW makes the 3 series larger and heavier, M ultimately has to fight that movement. Its not a one off sports car. The E92 would have been incredibly expensive to get down to 3300 lbs.

No possible way this car weighs what a 911 or vette weighs. I mean, even a 458 italia is 3400-3500 lbs. I dont see a the M3/4 being anwhere within 150 lbs of this weight. As I said in my previous post, there is probably some kind of semantic approach to that (i.e. no options). The f30 335 is ~35XX lbs, and the M3/4 will get more beefed up components to add weight and likely add more than they save.

My pure guess, 3600-3650 fully loaded.
+1

The F30 335i has a curb weight of 3570 lbs without any options. Nobody buys cars without options, so add another 50-70 lbs for a few options.

Considering the engine specification (straight 6, turbocharged) is pretty similar, the weight of the F80 won't be far off that mark, as it usually has more options as a standard already, compared to the 335i. A few carbon fiber and aluminium thingies here and there won't make a big difference, we already saw that on the E9x where at least the coupé also had a cf roof and aluminium suspension. Even the E90 M3 CRT didn't weigh a lot less than a standard M3.

Which is why I find 425hp rather disappointing. All competitors - even if they're heavier - will have far, far more powerful engines. MBZ will have a V8 biturbo, and Audi probably as well, and I can't see them giving their AMG / RS variants less than 500hp. Which means in real life they'll be faster than the F80, and you can also tune those even further.

Sure you'll also be able to tune the F80 eventually, but I imagine the ECU will be difficult to crack for some time and the turbos will be rather on the small side in order to avoid lag - meaning that substantial gains cannot be had with just upping the boost.

But let's see how the final figures will look.
