First time getting a tune

Hey guys new here . So i have a stock f80. Just ordered some akra downpipes and AA midpipe. Will be getting them installed shortly but was told i will need a tune to get rid of the CEL that will be on because of the catless downpipes.

My question is can i leave the CEL light on? Will it affect the way my car drives.

If i def need a tune. Can people recommend who they've had experience with? Also i am located in the NYC/long island area. Have heard of RK tunes a couple of times. Has anyone had experience with them and if so how'd that go. I am currently under warranty but i know the risk we take when getting mods. So i would like to get my car tuned by someone who def knows what they are doing and can help me go back to stock when visiting dealership. Thanks !

You could but I'd get a code reader to freq check you're only throwing the errors from missing cats. a tune is where you'll get most hp gains if that was a goal.

You can get a defouler so you dont get a CEL but wont really get the most out of DP/midpipe without a tune.

edit: for tune i'd go BM3 and go with Paul Johnson hands down.

Doing DP's and MID Pipe will not get you any real gains without a tune as 420COUPE stated. @F80PAUL is an awesome tuner breaking records on stock turbos. My buddy is running his FULL E85 tune and his car is Amazingly Fast. I actually Run DME stage 3 on my F83 Vert with DCT GTS flash and AWE TRACK EDITION EXHAUST and GINTANI Downpipes. I find it fast enough for me since my car is very heavy at 4200lbs in comparison to the F80/F82 that are around 3600lbs. It all depends on what you are looking to gain Sound or Power. I am also available to show you what my set up is like in comparison. Maybe You,@BigDog and i could link up one day and we can Run the cars to Compare.

BM3 is the best, you have access to off the shelf tunes, but if you want something more tailored to your car, you can have tuners like CaryTheLabelGuy custom tune your car.

I am currently running the off the shelf stage 2 and I am more than happy!

Running the car with the CEL is not an issue on this platform. The car will not die out like on the S63tu or S65.

I’m running DMETuning Stage 2 with downpipes and it’s fantastic. Runs like an animal through the entire RPM range...incredibly fast, and driveabilty is not affected at all. More importantly, it’s been entirely reliable without a hiccup. Definitely recommend it. They have an Instagram account with some videos posted if you want to check them out.

BM3 FTW! No custom hardware, special cables, instant activation the moment you buy it, nothing to wait for to ship, fully flash in like 4-5mins for first timers and then less than a minute to switch maps, flash the TCU (no one else has this built in), custom tuning, you can configure burble, speed limiter, rev matching, cold start, map sensors, boost by gear, incredible support and you got a facebook group over 2000 people in it and over like 6000 users and you get to resell and transfer your bm3 license when done make some cash back or transfer to another one of your own cars. You do the math.

I've been stalking the BM3 posts. Know anyone willing to sell? Itching for a reason to buy sooner than later.

@OP, if you decat, cel will be annoying but won't affect performance. Just as everyone else said you really need a tune to get he most. If you are looking to improve sound only, consider an axle back or other exhaust setup. I'm not sure what the laws are where you are from but some states are especially difficult to run catless downpipes in.

I am assuming this is including labor for installing bolt ons or custom tuning. There are a few custom tuning options out there but from the sounds of it BM3 would be a great start. It's Waaaay less than 1800 and you can buy and OTS tune and install it yourself through the cloud software.

You can drive with CEL on no problem but i do recommend Bootmod3 or Active Autowerke flash for max power.

You can install either of these tunes at home, no need to pay a mechanic to do it
