Cheaper option for mid-pipe... modify the OEM mid by removing the resonators?

I'm sure some people did this and im looking to hear your feedback !!

I can have my local exhaust shop removing both resonators on my OEM mid-pipe and weld some tubing for like 150$ which would be significantly cheaper than an aftermarket piece !!

Im just afraid the sound wouldnt be that nice and i want to avoid having an ugly exhaust tone lol so prior to making a decision im inquiring with some of you to see if this solution would be worth it or not !!

I would remove the cats before I remove the resonator.

with my past cars i've had the mental block of not spending more than a $1,000 for rear exhausts and not much more for xpipes (e36m,e46m,e92m various japanese cars etc...)

i left my rear exhaust stock for now but loved the looks of the aa midpipe. i'm glad i did because it improved the sound of the exhaust by more than i expected. besides the ugly rear bottom looks, i think i'm just going to paint it black and leave it because it sounds really good.

cliffnotes: spend the $1,000 on the AA, it's worth every penny.

My exhaust has just the resonator removed. Agree with the others, start with the secondaries

I replaced the secondary cats with an unresonated x-pipe and then straight-piped the resonator. It sounds like an S55 just louder (think v6 f-type) and waaay smoother. Spent $200 for parts and labor. Everyone who has heard it in person has agreed that its way better than the lawnmower OEM config.

Did you do this with OTS exhaust parts or did you start with an aftermarket mid-pipe? Please post pics/audio if you have. Would be great to see (and hear) the final outcome.

I replaced my resonator with an X-pipe and have a Dinan rear section.

so just to clarify and to confirm i understand how our exhaust are designed...

Part1= Downpipes
Part2= Mid pipe
Part3= Muffler

Im i correct here?

So i have replaced the oem DP with catless DP... and i want to remove the resonators from the mid pipe (is there 2 resonators on the mid pipe or 2 cats) ??

Im pretty the OEM muffler doesnt need to be modified but i want to find a cheaper solution to have a straight mid pipe and avoid spending 1000$ for the AA pipe or 500$ for the VRSF one !!

Part1= 1st Catalytic Convertors (Downpipes in your case)
Part2= 2nd Catalytic Convertors
Part3= H-Pipe + Resonator
Part4= Muffler

You can replace the secondary cats with small racing mufflers or just get rid of them and weld pipes straight through. For the H pipe and resonator, you can replace it with an X-pipe. Or pick and choose your own adventure.
