I'll just add a few things which i'm sure you've already thought of:

(a.) "Dream Car"
These are emotional purchases, I totally get it. That said, in 2-3 years (or less) this will no longer be your "dream car" and you'll have your eye on something else. End of the day, this is just a car with some options that you're going to get bored with.

(b.) Opportunity / Enjoyment Cost
You're going through a lot of administrative overhead and the real enjoyment of the car is outside of the windshield, which you're "depreciating" with the overhead. That said, I love my new interior and it's providing me a surprising bump in enjoyment and I've already spent 3 years with a 2015 sooo ...

(c.) Fool me once ...
If they screwed up once, they can screw up twice ... and ultimately all of that waiting, angst, and disappointment will (and already has) take away from what's out of the windshield.

Like I said, you've already thought of all of this and I completely get the notion that you want what you've ordered - and it sounds like you're going to get it, so that's awesome.

As for BMWNA and BMWAG - I've been through some with them, less than others, more than some. I've made my peace with the fact that they're not a perfect company and, end of the day, these are enormously complex cars, not a consumer gadget. We can't expect free returns and other gimmes when things go wrong and things might, have and do go wrong. ESPECIALLY with Individual.

So, with that, when they delivered my car in November with some things not as I asked I decided to just enjoy it as is because 3 years from now I'll just get a new one anyway so who gives a fuck?

I don't even worry about door dings any more

I'm FREE!
I feel you on the dings. I have never really stressed about this stuff as i know life happens and there are so many other things to put your energy towards. This car cost almost twice as much as i have ever spent on any car so i am alot more attached. Its more like a goal achieved than just a car.

This car is a loan and not a lease. I have kept my last two cars for 5 years each and this one i plan to keep waaaay longer. At some point this car will no longer be my daily driver. I see some guys at meets today that still have their e36 m3s and love it to this day. I wanna be that guy 20 years from now when the m3s will be the size of the current 7 series and have a huge m logo on the hood.

wow, i'm nervous leasing a car every 3 years - mostly because I see technology changing so fast that even 3 years is starting to feel like a long time.

Plus the 2018s vs the 2015s is a serious and meaningful difference so I'd be bummed to still be in the '15 ... although I do like some things about it more. That said I'd definitely take the '18 over the '15.

Personally I've made peace with the fact that these cars are big ridiculously expensive toys ... if BMW gets the "car as a service" down, I'll probably switch to that. Ideally I'd upgrade every 2 years.

I'll stay with every 3 years, just recently wrapped up my 2018 X5M last month. Time to enjoy both M's for the next 24 months before I start the individual process for an other ED F83 and by then the new G85 is released. GrussGott you have me scared now to customize a full individual interior with different leather colors/stitching. Maybe I should start now?

I'm looking forward towards the next G80/G82/G83 chassis with supposedly am electronic hybrid. L

My order got screwed up as well, i didn’t get my full leather on my on my 18 f80. I contacted bmw na and they gave me a 1000 credit before purchase plus the dealer did right by me and gave me a ridiculous discount on the price of the car. I was satisfied, the mistake ended up saving me an additional $5000 plus the difference in price between full and extended leather. But ma’an. I wish I had full leather.

Not to pile on, but I picked up my 18 F80 a couple of weeks ago with full leather and it's amazing the difference it makes luxury-wise. I don't ever seeing myself going back to a non-full leather car.

Definitely do it, you just have to realize:

Individual Manufaktur is NOT A SERVICE, and it's especially not a "premium service". It's a set of undefined options for an undefined price that you'll have to tightly manage to get, and that might not ever materialize as you order.

People around here like to think IM is "special"; it's not special, it's the thing morons buy to satiate their inferiority complex. But this is a safe place, and that's ok to want.

But know what to expect: administrative overhead. Friction. Frustration.

Ultimately, it'll probably work out to something you really appreciate - but don't expect the path there to be smooth. Again, it's not a service.

And ... sometimes having to fight for something makes it that much sweeter.

So go for it!

It's not to satisfy my complex, as I have black with blue stiching for my 2015 435 vert and now full Silverstone for the 2018 M4 vert, just nothing else is interesting; unless some of the CS interiors make it over to the F83 chassis. I enjoy being very hands on and involved, can wipe my own a&s, so NOT looking for the VIP- just an interesting design, as the people in my cars is Ibiza'sWife and myself, could car less what other side think aka suck it

So BMW confirmed today they will be reordering car. The dealer actully had no m3 allocations. Bmw NA provided them 1 just for the reorder. Now gotta work with dealer to sort out all the details.

Such a bummer, I would expect to be made whole by BMW NA, as someone is colorblind and the manufacturer should have better quality control to distinguish orange from red. This passed through at a minimum Lear seat manufacturer, factory interior control, factory vehicle compleation and the VDC. No wonder why at Plant Spartanburg the quality posters are plastered every where. My X5M aluminum trim had a small defect at delivery and had BMW NA order a replacement to have dealership install at 1,200 mile break in.
Hell bmw should give him the vehicle for free! Better yet, they should pay him to take it! I mean, interior stitching that is a shade off?! Truly unforgivable.

Sorry I always find it funnily in threads like this how unreasonable some people can be.

But OP I wouldn't expect them to do more other than maybe refund the $ spent on the custom stitching or some sort of merchandise/maintenance credit. I feel for you and it sucks you didn't get exactly what you wanted but obv it's not that big of a deal and you will still enjoy the car immensely.
seems like they're going to give him a new car entirely. not for free mind you, but man - all over some stitching. i should see if my one year old car has anything wrong with it that i can persuade bmw i need a new one because of

I will drive it until new one comes and then turn it back to them. They even mentioned something they call a VIN swap. I didn't know they could just swap VINs on cars but apparently they can.

I actually asked for an option B of my money back so I don't have to part out car, retint, recoat etc. but they seem adamant on getting the right car. I think it really bothered them they messed up in the factory, I can tell by reaction for the BMWNA rep and my dealer. All in all I consider myself very fortunate.

Through the whole process I never got upset nor did I demand anything, it's nice to see that you don't have to get upset, make a fuss, or demanded an immediate resolution to be heard. I actually felt there was a chance they may do nothing and even though I would not have been happy, I was going to have to accept it. It's incredible to see BMW holds themselves to this standard.

The VIN swap is just on your financial paperwork and not the actual car. It lets you get the new car without having to go through all the financing paperwork again and also keep the same rates. This is also how BMW handles buybacks that don't fall under lemon law scenarios when there is a lien on the car even if you don't go through BMW financing.

Car just arrived and I took mine in for the dealer to swap cars. Perfect timing as I am trying to get the new one before I hit Monterey car week at the end of the month!

That's pretty awesome. You got to drive a brand new loaner m3 for 5 months.

Honestly, I would just request a refund on the package. I think BMW will end up losing more money by giving you a whole new car.
